I really didn't quite like making this compared to Reshiram's as the idea didn't quite fit easily with Zekrom's typing. It's Electric type which didn't quite fit with the underlying technique that well. But I'm the type of guy who never backs out on a challenge. With the power of determination, I found a solution. Undertale reference.

The Conflict of Idea and Technique
So, it happened to me everytime I rely on the typing for the design. It happens when I use a certain aesthetic for a Pokemon Trio/Duo and it wouldn't quite work one of the Pokemon's typings. This Zekrom fanart was on of those cases. The solution to these conflicts is to compromise the similarity and go on a fundamentally different but similar looking style.

The Underlying Technique
I used noise generation a lot before. It's a really versatile technique for Photoshop artists. But this specific technique use a black and white cloud (No pun intended) and then assigns a color to a certain brightness value. I used this technique in the Legendary beasts before but here specifically, I painted over the cloud pattern. So I was able to decide where each color appears instead of just randomness. I don't know the actual name for it, but I'll call it cloud painting. I know, pretty original.

What's the same and what's different
I used cloud painting on both deviations. The difference lies on how I used the cloud pattern to color. For Reshiram, I used the Vivid light layer style which shifts the colors in from one hue to it's neighboring hues. It works well as red, orange and yellow are all neighboring hues. For Zekrom, I used what was called a gradient map. It's more flexible as you can select specific colors but it's takes longer as you have the pick the colors themselves.
