Description Not sure about this but where better to get critique?

Was feeling rather when I came up with this - many, many faces hidden away and I`ve been told there`s even an owl!

Drawn freehand with Staedtler pens - 1.0 and 0.5

..and yes I know I could use photoshop to blacken it further but that would be "cheating" and NOT then able to go in traditional art (My pet hate on DA is obviously altered works being listed as traditional when obviously digitally enhanced!, grrr... I`ll not climb on my soapbox now...)
PS - Adjusting contrast, tone etc to make same as original IS okay!
Its blocks of colour, blacker blacks, photoshop backgrounds, etc that get me all

Anywhen, back to this...

Created 2006

Original size is A3-ish

Not sure if will end uo in scraps or may just re-do and re-submit...

Lovely job, nice and clean. Staedtler rule!

I know what you mean about Photoshop, tis a tempting ol' beast!

As you have seen already, I have used similar style to this in my work - and being quite impatient at times, have often resorted to using black marker for the block shading and then the drawing pen for a crisper outline.

Thanks a lot - I am happy you enjoyed it

Photoshop is evil

Sometimes use black marker but usually isn`t black enough so have to go over it anyway!

It was okay I didn`t take it as a criticism I wasn`t sure where to stick it.
Else you wouldn`t have had happy emot in corner
An accolade eh, love having them

PS Hopefully I can find some of my old surreal pencil workings - you`ll probably love them, just got to wait for manic spring cleaning

I like making happy faces out of fish cakes
... and top of coffee jar is usually a happy face in the foil, until I need to get just that little bit deeper I have to tear it all together - perhaps I should take a photo next jar?

Just a quick question---what's A3 size? I see it on Illustrator when I print from the Mac G5s at school, but I dunno what it is besides a size.

Oh, and that image is so freaky.... I think I saw Cruella deVille's face in there....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Quaddles-Roost In reply to Mizra [2007-02-13 20:59:22 +0000 UTC]

Hope that "so freaky" is a good thing?

As in US - I`ll measure in inches Approx 17" x 12"
I think I`ll do a tutorial on British paper sizes - as so much depends where in world you live eh?
Even down to cartridge paper, watercolour paper, etc...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mizra In reply to Quaddles-Roost [2007-02-14 11:29:48 +0000 UTC]

Yes, "so freaky" is a very good thing.

Thanks for the heads up on the paper size. So A3 is almost SuperB Tabloid, eh?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Quaddles-Roost In reply to Mizra [2007-02-15 06:52:04 +0000 UTC]

Thought it was

Hard to work on anything bigger than A3 unless I use my easel...
Strange how paper size isn`t standard everywhere really isn`t it...

Aaaaawwww Thank you

Though maybe hard to get the hidden images more defined as each one is part of at least one more, took a lot of working out at the time...

I've seen a cat there!... Don't scrap it, it's an intriguing picture. I wasn't quite sure whether you didn't put there some hidden message or something.
So, you're an absolutely traditional art fan? That's cool to see such people are around.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Quaddles-Roost In reply to kbrandt [2007-02-08 19:15:48 +0000 UTC]

Now I`ll go have a look at original - maybe I cannot remember or usually find everything I put in these

Yes proper traditional art fan - makes me sound antiquated, still I`m weird like that

kbrandt In reply to Quaddles-Roost [2007-02-08 19:43:07 +0000 UTC]

Maybe that was just my eyes playing with me, I've been looking at it for so long.

That's nothing bad about it, I guess. I'm myself a fan of pens and nibs and ink and do my comics with them.
