Was this a macro shot or did you stand further away and use telephoto as I know from doing it myself that getting the camera close enough to a perched dragonfly is not easy

It wouldnt be a Macro as the subject is too big,it was taken with my 70-300 lens but at its minimum focal distance which is about 450mm,it was oblivious of me and i could probably got closer but that was the only lens i had with me at the time James.
Its surprising how close they will let you get,once they decide you are no threat

The one I took a picture of kept flying off and landing a few metres up the path I was walking along until it decided to just stop and not bother about me edging towards it

Thank you Eileen,this is a bit of a consolation prize though,we went bugging last Sunday and got some amazing Dragon shots,i even got a Ruddy Darter in flight .all sharp and everything....i was having a tidy-up on the hard-drive and deleted to folder

I had run out of room on my hard-drive and shifted some stuff onto an external...and it just got mixed up in the to delete pile
