Description I've been feeling pretty uninspired lately for art. So this is kind of my practice. I don't know how those good artists do it. I might update it later, but for now, sleep.

I bet you cant tell at all which parts are unfinished.

Edit: All done. Or as done as I feel like doing.

Sometimes I think I'm good until I look at this kind of stuff: [link]

And then I realize I'm not so good anymore.

I actually do like how the eyes and hair turned out for the most part, its just her face and its structure that wig me out and make me not like this so much. I like the part I'm using as an avatar...

it's actually not that much better than yours... the anatomy is better, but the actual quality isn't.
it's those little details like proportions that make the difference. your skill level for coloring and shading is very good.

If you want a critique I'd just suggest working on anatomy. you know, just do some practice sketches on the parts you feel don't look right... like wings or leg length or neck length or whatever. I can't really tell from that image lol XD

see that's because you've mastered the shading to make the head look awesome <3
I know how to do all kinds of cool vectors and shading...
but until I started trying to work on anatomy it didn't rly start to look very much better.

see what I'm tryin to say? or am I not making sense. I know I fail with using the right words lol XD

It does make sense. I am trying to work on the anatomy of these ponies, sometimes. Its just a tad hard when they're so definitely stylized anyway.

But yeah yeah, you're making sense, no worries. I understand.

ok good lol XD
sometimes I try to start explaining something and then go all ADD and over explain and suddenly...
it makes no sense >.>

yeah, it really is.
and everyone has their own little style that the twist into it :/
I think that's where you're hanging... your shifting between styles and you need to work on anatomy a bit

I can see your style coming through, which guess that just comes with time and a lot of drawing haha
you'll get there, you definately have the potential and the talent.
just keep drawing ponies!

Oh, I'm going to keep drawing ponies. They're funsies. Anatomy is something I have been working on for a bit now, in absence of good ideas to draw. Faces just aren't something I had thought of too much before this.

Qaxis In reply to dhDingo [2011-09-28 19:05:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, i mean, zoomed in faces. Normally pony faces aren't quite so large.

But why would they be important anyway?

dhDingo In reply to Qaxis [2011-09-30 01:23:02 +0000 UTC]

FACES ARE ALWAYS IMPORTANT U TARDFACE.
they show expression and everything. a face can make or break a drawing... even cartoons!

....
especially cartoons actually. cartoons are all about expression O.o

I would say so. :0

Isn't Pinkamina kind of the epitome of dramatic? I was tryin' for another way to say that you depicted her well rather than 'G'job' but maybe that would've worked better.

Perhaps. Well. Obviously the moral of the story is that I am a grumpy grump of grumpyness in my responses.

I'm glad I haven't hit any inspiration ruts.

Most artists like Jon Joseco appear to have a running theme for a while, e.g., ponies waking up. Otherwise, it appear to mostly be fanfic fanart...

Qaxis In reply to CoffeeGrunt [2011-09-22 19:58:50 +0000 UTC]

Its a pain.

Running themes are useful, I'd say. I had a little one a bit back when I was doing Doctor Who crossover stuff. Doing fanfic fanart is a pretty good idea though...I hadn't thought of doing that.

CoffeeGrunt In reply to Qaxis [2011-09-22 20:09:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeh, I think 90% of fanart I look at is based on fics rather than the show itself.

Qaxis In reply to CoffeeGrunt [2011-09-23 03:30:32 +0000 UTC]

I never noticed all that...I should probably learn how to do comics. I have a lot of ideas that only work like that.

"I don't know how those good artists do it."
You can just ask them. Alot of the good artists in the community are very friendly. Some have already posted tutorials on how they do what they do. You could also watch streams or speedpaint videos. You're already pretty good, you just have to keep drawing to get better. All of the good artists were not always as good as they are now.

Qaxis In reply to I-Love-RainbowDash [2011-09-22 20:07:43 +0000 UTC]

This was pretty much the first time I've tried to do a pony pic like this. Usually when I try something new, I try to avoid tutorials and the like and just wing it. Usually I look up tutorials if I choose to continue. Usually I learn better from having my own way of doing things, then incorporating some bits and pieces of others in order to improve rather than just following them. That and I'm like Applejack and am not the biggest fan of asking for help.

Thanks for the advice and compliment!

Hey, no problem. I can definitely relate to wanting to figure something out on your own. I'm the same way with music; like trying to get a specific sound for an instrument. You seem to be pretty good at figuring stuff out, so I say just keep on being awesome
