Description I decided not to just do my current favorite characters, but to draw characters from the history of myself--ones that have caught and influenced my psyche in some way. So there are characters from my adolescent and young adult self, ones from fandoms I've been enamoured in, and from stories I've read multiple times.

1.) Haku, or Nigihayami Kohakunushi, from Spirited Away. A dragon who rescues a girl, and then she rescues him. Total love.
2.) SNAPE!! I always trusted you, Snape. If you could only have had the emotional intelligence to let go of your resentment before the end. *cry* (yet another reason why I like fanfic...)
3.) The Doctor! from Doctor Who. I love Doctor Who, and 9th Doctor Christopher Eccleston with your pain, anger and manic grin, you were my doctor.
4.) Miss Anne Elliot from Persuasion, by Jane Austen. The most romantic of Austen's works, and the most introverted of her heroines. I totally relate to her. (Could use a Capt. Wentworth...)
5.) Vash the Stampede, from Trigun. Total love for this character. Horrible past, a flailingly happy, protective attitude in the present. Love and peace!
6.) Edward Cullen, from Twilight. XD Of course, he is mostly fascinating only in tandem with Bella--Mr. Perfect and Untouchable becomes devoted to a girl and focuses all his attention on her. That's why the ladies like him.
7.) Wizard Harry Dresden, or Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, from the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Wonderful. Harry, you break my heart. ;___;
8.) Menolly from the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. I read these books, like, 12 times when I was a teen and pre-teen. Tall and awkward girl with musical abilities and telepathically connected little dragons struggling against the misogynist strictures of a medieval culture in a scifi world. My young heart and mind was caught.
9.) Erik, the Phantom of the Opera. My inner Mary-Sue fanfic version of him is an amalgam of Leroux's original canon, and Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical romance, with less killing.
10.) Zuko, from Avatar: the Last Airbender. The most fascinating character with the widest and deepest character arc from the best animated series ever created. (The movie has me in mourning.)
11.) Ekaterin, or, Lady Ekaterin Nile Vorvayne Vorsoisson Vorkosigan, from the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. I love this series, and I love this character. "Komarr" is heartbreaking and wonderful, and " A Civil Campaign" finishes the romantic arc with great satisfaction. Ekaterin is a reserved, intelligent woman trapped in a deadening marriage, and to see her progress from painful emotional distance to a woman who can handle Miles' hyperactiveness, counteract seedy politicians and dire planetary threats with calm clearheadedness, is beautiful.
12.) Miles, or Lord Auditor Miles Naismith Vorkosigan, from the Vorkosigan Saga by Lois McMaster Bujold. I re-read my favorites novels in the series every year, and the whole series every other year, it's like comfort food. Fantastic, character-driven sociopolitical-military scifi, with Miles as one of the best characters ever created. He's short, damaged, hyper and brilliant. Love him.
13.) Sesshoumaru, from Takahashi's Inuyasha. By himself, he's just a pretty villian. With Rin, he is fascinating.
14.) Darth Vader. Dark villain turns on his evil master for love of his son. Plus James Earl Jones. Have I mentioned I love redemption stories? (First time I've drawn him, which is interesting.)
15.) Wanda, from The Host by Stephenie Meyer. Fabulous character with powerful emotional complexity from a fascinating book.

Characters that could have, but didn't make it to this meme: Jareth, Wolverine, Izark, Captain Hook, Fujiwara no Sai, Mercy Thompson, Samuel and Bran Cornick, Ishida, Hao from Shaman King, Vin from Mistborn, Rapunzel, Sookie Stackhouse (from the books), Hatori from Fruits Basket, Laura Ingalls, Rainbow Bright from childhood...

Plus characters I love as couples together: Usagi and Mamoru, Bujold's Dag and Fern, Katniss and Peeta, Charles and Anna Cornick, Sophie and Howl, Whisper of Heart's Shizuku and Seiji, Ian and Wanda, Vin and Elend, Laura Ingalls and Alonzo Wilder...

I love almost every character here... except Edward Cullen.

That you put the likes of Miles in a list containing anyone from Twilight is a travesty, it's twisted from all that is right and good. How can you read the Vorkosigan Saga and still like twilight eludes me. You have read "A Civil Campaign" and still find anything even remotely endearing about Twilight? I... I just don't get it.

Holy flaming carrot chips but I wish you lived in Toronto! Another Dresden fan? Who loves Miles, Inuyasha and Avatar??? Be my friend! O.O

Also, going by your character choices, I NEED to introduce you to "Elfquest." Of course, you could have already read it. But if you had, Rayek would surely have been on this list.

I need to read more Vorkasigan. I don't know who Ekaterin is, sadly. Of course, it's been so long I don't remember much. Just that Miles is awesome!

You should draw the runner up characters sometime. I want to see your drawings of Jareth and Izark especially.

DO EET. "Komarr" and "A Civil Campaign" are my favorite books in the series. You can probably start with "Memory" and go from there (unless you don't remember who Mark is, then you'll likely want to re-read).

And have you read "Barrayar"? It's about his mother and his birth, and it's heartrendingly brilliant.

I need to draw Jareth and Izark and other characters I love, but I never seem to get around to it. darnit. :]

I don't even remember which books of that series I've read. I really do need to start completely over.

You probably never get around to it because you see less value in fan art than your original works. You've got so much to draw already! But honestly, being able to convey a recognizable character in different styles is it's own challenge. It can help you grow as an artist because you're doing something you're not used to. I challenge you to it!

Besides, it'll be fun.
