Description Running. It seemed all I ever did anymore. From Templars. From the Grey Wardens. Everything. I missed my family, my friends, my cat sir pounce a lot, oh how I missed that beast. But they were all gone now. Everyone that is, except for Justice. My old best friend turned into a monster all because of my anger.
It hasn’t been long since I found myself within the walls of Kirkwall. Its statues intimidated everyone with their features and humility. They said it was when the Tevinter slavers owned the land to intimidate slaves. They seemed to scream at me as I deported from the ship I had escaped away on. I kept my eyes to the ground trying to ignore their faces as all seemed to focus on me rather than anyone else.
“Why here? Anywhere but here…” I kept thinking over and over through my head feeling myself start to sweat.
“Relax Anders, they won’t find us. Just stick to the plan.” I would hear Justice echo at the back of my mind, somewhat comforting me, but then I would remember that this was my, no, our choice to come here in the first place.
I found myself soon exploring the city looking for a place to stay, anywhere to stay. It seemed that every time that I would find somewhere, the place was infested with Templars. I found the only place without the place swarming with Templars was the small area called Dark Town. I walked through the place over and over again watching the Ferelden refugees pile up there, as that was the only place they had to go.
“Anders, we are here to help the mages, right?” Justice spoke out after hours of searching place after place.
“Of course we do! But if we do anything we will be caught by the Templars for sure!” I snapped back at him in my mind as he knew that was the only reason I was still walking on my aching feet searching constantly.
“Then put your healing powers to use. I saw an empty clinic up those stairs over there. It’s open for use but it’s a free clinic and you’re the only one who has the capability to do it for free. That way we can help the mages and we can have a place to stay.” Justice calmly said back. I could hear the smirk in his voice. I felt my face shift and smile as I thought about what he had just said. My lips morphed into a smile and I started laughing to myself.
“You’re a genius!! I screamed back in my mind almost running up the dirt covered stairs into a small open room covered with crates and other storage items. I started brushing off the dust of the tables and cleaned what I could salvage of the items for medical use and got started immediately. It seemed like only minutes or hours when refugees started pouring in with sickness and wounds. A lot of them were old and infected but I tried my hardest to make sure everyone left satisfied.
Weeks went passed and everyday was just as busy as the next. Those weeks slowly turned into months and months slowly turned into a year. I became used to the things I had to see, nothing was surprising anymore. I seemed to get more exhausted then usual and things that were fine before seemed incredibly difficult. But I couldn’t stop work yet, to many people, and to many illnesses.
“I don’t know how much more I can take of this…” I said in my head as drips of sweat formed on my head as I worked effortlessly trying to heal a little girl who got mugged and beaten from the thugs and street rats who take the streets at night.
“Relax my friend. The blight has finally ended and we have been here a little over a year now. No Templars or thugs have come in to take us. We are safe here.” Justice cooed through my head trying to calm my nerves as I always had thoughts of being discovered no matter how long I had been here. I nodded my head to myself as if I was complying with everything Justice said while I finished the girl’s wounds and watched them broken and bleeding to hardly noticeably faded scars.
The girl gasped with air running into her lungs as all her wounds were healed and the life was brought back into her. She gave me a glimpse of a smile and turned to her mother as she ran up to her and wrapped her tiny arms around her mother’s waist and hugged her tight.
I stumbled over to my knees as it took most of my energy to heal her and I caught myself with my hands against the hard dirt ground. I held on to the wall next to me and propped myself up holding my head as it felt dizzy and hard to concentrate on anything.
“Anders, quickly! Someone is coming, and they are not refugees!” Justice screamed as I tried to get over my heads aching pain. I felt his words pulse through my body and crack with a blue mist from the lyrium in my body as Justice’s anger controlled over my emotions. I jumped to my feet grabbing my staff and holding it in a stance as I watched four people walk in.
“I have made this place a sanctum of healing and salvation! Why do you threaten it?” I screamed as I felt Justice’s voice come out with mine and echo through the small room. The four people stopped in their place only feet from where I stood. Their clothes were stained with old blood, but their weapons were soaked with fresh blood as I could see it drip ever so slightly.
There was a girl with heavy plated armor standing in the back. Her hair was a light orange pulled back loosely. She looked tough but you could see the pain she had hiding in her eyes. Next to her stood an elf with longer snow white hair as it shielded his eyes from the world as you could see he had tattoos that seemed to glow faintly threw his skin. They weren’t normal by no mean. Near the front stood a dwarf, but he seemed different that most dwarfs I had seen. He was clean shaven with no scruff as he wore nice clothes and had a wicked smile. He was armed with a crossbow rather than a sword or a shield, which was what, fascinated me with him the most.
But then I saw her. She stood ahead of everyone else. Her hair black as the night, fell loosely around her face, framing everything perfectly. Her eyes shined a color I couldn’t describe. It was auburn red eyes which I had never seen before. She wore robes that looked to be robes of a mage from the circle, but the staff she carried had no such mark. It seemed old and worn but powerful. She was clearly an apostate, but I couldn’t tell what made her different then most apostates I had seen. I could see she had a sense of confidence as she walked casually into the clinic. I kept myself from staring too much but I was fascinated with the group of people who had found their way to me.
“Healing and salvation? I thought the Grey Wardens were all about taint and death.” The woman in front said with a smirk on her face as she walked a few feet closer to me with her hidden smile.
“Did the Wardens send you? Tell them I’m not going back. Those bastards made me get rid of my cat, pour Sir Pounce a lot.” I scoffed at them as I turned away ignoring them.
“I’m planning an expedition to the Deep Roads, and any information you know will help save people’s lives.” The woman said, with a gentle voice that gave me goose bumps all over my body as it calmed my anger and my cracked skin faded.
“I will die a happy man if I never think about the blighted Deep Roads again.”I said turning away as the thought of the Deep Roads made me cringe and remember why I left the Wardens. But I paused as I thought about the situation a little. “Although, a favor for a favor…does that sounds like a fair deal?” I said maybe taking advantage of the situation we were both in.
“Depends on what the favor is. I don’t do anything involving children, and animals.” The woman said with sarcastically with a small smile as she walked forward so that she was standing as close to me as her companions.
“Hawke, this is a waste of time.” The elf said with eyes like daggers as he watched my every move as I tried to escape his glare.
Hawke, huh? Pretty name. I thought to myself as I felt Justice scoff at me in my head.
“My friend Karl was taken by the Templars a few night ago. They learned of my plan to free him from the chantry and circle. If you come with me then I will have more of a chance of success.” I spoke cautiously seeing her reaction to my request. I didn’t want her to run to the Templars telling them I was seeking outside help.
“Well, the Templars already hate me anyway. What’s the worst that could happen?” She laughed with a smile agreeing with me to go and help. I saw the dwarf standing next to her roll his eyes at her comment and whisper to himself,
“You know I hate it when you say that.” He scoffed but laughed after trying to lighten the mood. I couldn’t help but smile at his reaction as it, wasn’t what I had intended.
I tried to keep my excitement level down as much as I could as she smiled up at me waiting for my response. I cleared my throat and decided to speak finally after a long silence.
“Great. Meet me at the Chantry door steps tonight in High Town. You help me with this, and my maps are yours.” I spoke as she nodded and walked out the door of my clinic. I began to put things away as I readied myself to leave for the Chantry tonight, I had to leave soon in order to get there and prepare before nightfall.
The sun started to set as I made way in the Chantry courtyard and made my way over to a little bench in a dark corner waiting for the people in the town square to leave. I hid my staff the best I could as I watched Templars pace back and forth through the town. It made me nervous every time their eyes made their way to where I was sitting. They didn’t notice me thankfully as people fled the area going back to their homes and I watched the salesmen pack up and go home for the night. Not long after did the Templars leave back to the Chantry and I was alone.
I made my way slowly up to Chantry steps. Somehow my feet seemed to be extra loud at this time as every bump or crack I was certain they would burst through the Chantry doors to arrest me. No sound was made from within the walls as I stood in the shadows waiting for Hawke and her companions to make their way here.
An hour or so after standing there alone I saw four dark figures in the distance make their way up the Chantry’s steps. The torches of light illuminated their faces and I could make out who they were. It was Hawke and her companions who I saw earlier in my clinic. Relief over whelmed me as I knew I could leave this suspenseful place soon.
“I saw Karl go in not too long ago.” I spoke in a whisper as she finally made it up the flight of stairs.
“I didn’t see anyone suspicious when I came up, let’s go.” She spoke in a louder whisper as we creaked open the door and made our way into the darkness of the Chantry halls.
“He should be right up those stairs. When we get to Karl, let me talk to him.” I spoke in an anxious whisper as I felt my heart start to beat faster and harder as each second passed. Hawke nodded as she could see the fear I had upon my face. She gave me a quick smile which seemed to comfort me a little knowing she was there.
We ran up the stairs as I saw a few candles glowing in the room next to them for the souls of the dead. A dark figure stood next to them dressed in robes next to a fully made bed. My eyes widened as we got closer.
‘Karl…” I whispered to myself as I ran with all my might as fast as I could up the stairs. Hawke followed at the same pace as she heard the whisper I had made.
“I know you all too well Anders.” The figure said as I him, standing only feet away. I was confused, this wasn’t Karl’s voice. This was dull, flat, and empty. I cringed at the sound as fear pulsed through my entire body knowing full well what had happened.
“Karl, w-what’s wrong?” I stuttered out hoping all my fears were a figment of my imagination. Hoping, this was all a dream.
“I was too rebellious; I had to be made an example out of.” Karl said as he turned around his voice still the same. I looked to see a fresh tattoo engraved in his forehead, as it stood for the stamp of tranquility. My eyes widened in terror as I felt tears weld up in my eyes. This had all gone wrong.
“Karl, No!” I screamed as he raised his hands and summoned Templars to where we all stood. I shook my head in disbelief, this couldn’t be happening.
I fell to my knees in pain as I felt Justice’s rage over power me as the fresh lyrium pulsed through my veins making my skin crack and turn a faded blue color. I felt my body go numb as Justice took over and I was pushed into a dark corner of my mind as I watched through my eyes as Justice screamed out in anger.
“You will not take another mage as you took him!” His anger ripped through my body, physically hurting me. I felt his anger like a fire in my blood, burning hotter and hotter as he attacked with such force I had never seen before. I felt blood splatter against my face as he began to beat the dead corpses with the staff I had carried here.
“Justice, this is too far. Stop, they paid their price.” I spoke in a whisper to him to calm him down as he slowly stopped swinging the staff. I pushed my way through my mind taking back control of my body as he pushed himself deep into my mind I couldn’t feel his presence anymore.
“Anders, what did you do? It’s like you brought a piece of the fade inside of you.” Karl said, frantic and confused as the emotion and music came back into his voice.
“Yeah, what did you do? Not the fade part, but the freaky glowey part.” Hawke said calmly as if she was used to stuff like this. I felt somewhat of relief come over my body to here the calmness in her voice rather than to turn and run.
“I will explain…later.” I said trying to think how I was going to tell her without sounding like an abomination. So she wouldn’t take a final look and run from me.
“Anders, you don’t know what it’s like being made tranquil. All the color, the music in the world, gone. I would gladly give up all my magic to escape this fate. Please Anders, kill me before it fades!” Karl screamed as he fell to his knees holding his head in pain as the emotion left quickly from his voice.
“Karl, no.” I spoke in a whisper as I choked on the tears streaming down my face as I pulled my hair trying to decide what to do.
“I would rather die than become tranquil, please Anders. Kill him to help him escape this fate.” Hawke spoke calmly as she rested her hand on my shoulder comforting me, knowing this was impossibly difficult for me. I got to me feet as I watched Karl’s face terrified look up at me still gripping his head in pain. With a blink of an eye his face changed. It fell flat and empty.
“Why do you look at me like that?” Karl spoke out as if he was already dead. I grabbed a small sharp dagger from a cloth cover hooked to my pack. I felt my heart start to pound in my chest as I walked closer to the man I once knew as my best friend. I paused as I stood inches away from his body gripping the dagger with such force my hand started to shake.
“Good-bye Karl.” I spoke in a whisper as I plunged the dagger into his heart, hearing his final breath as he collapsed to the floor motionless, his blood pooling onto the floor. I put the dagger quickly back in its case as I wiped the blood from my hands off against my robes as it felt uncomfortable in between my fingers.
“Let’s go before more Templars come.” I spoke out, cold and hard as I walked down the stairs, my eyes glued to the floor as I heard the footsteps of Hawke and her companions walk down the stairs after me.

Okay, this is the first Chapter, sorry if it isnt exactly the best, but it follows the story line pretty good. So tell me what you think ^_^

Do not steal someone elses art, and write a chapter.  (Plus it's hard to read since it's in... well, a description on dA.. That and this chapter is literally just what happens in the game.) and submit it.
I clicked on this because I thought the picture was beautiful. What I ended up with was not the artist of the picture but someone else. And that is not good.
