Tada, I proudly present..... Sekhmet.A contest entry to Feline-Icity's Acient Egypt Contest [link]
Contest: Nope, didnt win either
Personally, I don't know anything about egypt's gods except Ra, until I played Age of Mythology. Well, Sekhmet, as portrayed in the game is a rather muscular lioness with the body of a woman. I did some reading on her bio. Her name means "(one who is) powerful", she is a bringer of disease as well as cure to disease. I remembered her had a story of bloodlust... Kept on drinking the blood of human even after a war, and that almost wipe out entire humanity. Then, Ra tricked her into drinking the river full of red wine (like blood) so she kinda.... went drunk... and stopped the slaughter, and humanity was save... yeeppi
At first, I was worried about the colors picked. Then, everything seems to turn out just fine. The original Sekhmet (I mean the very original one) has a scepter and a.... something on her head, a round hat I think, with a cobra along it (Can find the original one here [link] ). There are many other version that "improved" this original picture. Making her looking much sexier, appealing, woo-hoo, OMG, Holy cow! and such, rather than a flat 2D symbolic drawing. Some with a sword, while some with fire bursting out of her hand. But I guess I will just do it my way. Fire is good. And adding more cloths is good.

This is really good! It's nice seeing a Sekhmet that actually portrays "Sekhmet". She actually looks like a crazy, powerful, fighting lioness.

I like the action and feel of the pic- I think you captured movement really well, something that is hard to do.
I think though the line strength is lacking - which makes the figure become lost. One thing I would work on is line weight. Don't be afraid to make your lines a little bolder and thicker. It will really help bring out the central figure more.

WOW!! I like how this looks, there's tons of action guiding this feline. I especially like the flow, she looks really good and ferocious at the same time, ( lol my kind of feline X3 ). The effects are good too, the swirling fire is great looking and full of motion.
The pose is great too, it leaves me wondering if she just slid into defensive action, or if she's preparing to lunge with fire and rage. I don't think I'll ever find out but I can admire it forever. It's lookin great PurpleGround :3

lol There's no problem what so ever :3 I may be Black, but I know nothing about Egypt or Africa, and even if I did, I'd feel honored for my favorite artist to draw stuff about my country :3 regardless of it's accuracy.
And you don't need to worry too much, I worry about you enough as it is, I hope you Laptop comes back working perfectly >.<. But I just got busy all of a sudden, I'm working with my mate and her brother doing alot of Websites and things like that, it's what we do instead of going to work lol and it makes alot but it's a fairly demanding industry to work in. So during the day I don't find myself with alot of time to check out websites and art, and at night sometimes I'm so tired I just want to lay down, or eat and lay down... Or just EAT X3.
But I'm sorry to worry you, didn't mean to. We're still great friends as far as I'm concerned, and I think your Egyptian art is fantastic, everything you've come through with that I've seen has been fantastic, my favorite thing -to date- that you've drawn is still Crane's Comic where he was drawing Mei-Ling and nobody had a clue what it was, until she showed up. XD It makes me laugh every time I read it.
I'm hoping your 2010 keeps going great for you.

I absoultely LOVE this picture! I love the BG. Just.. just fantastic and amazing potray of this demon. It's really good and the fire was a perfect touch to it.
Details of the clothing is superb and shading gives a good touch of how it looks like. I love it.
But... I think that that pose has been used way too many times. Why not try a different position when you are drawing another one?

Thanx. The fire was my first try, actually went referring at real snapshot of fire for that. Clothing was based on several egyptian arts and took the most simple yet fitting design. Background chosen was as simple as I could think of to make.
The pose, well, I don't know. Yeah, frankly, it had been used many times. But for me, I rarely try it. It's quite fitting to show one's ferocity anyway, so I see it fit for her.

Well, for a first try, you most definitely nailed it through with the fire! All I can say is that the whole picture is superb. It should most definitely at least be in the running win... part of a feature or something.

MMmm... yep, I am pretty am busy at work and report. But can take the free time off doing some art. Besides, the thirst for the feel of power is just tempting. While the last comic page tend to have actions, so many have been removed just to keep the flow of the action. Some are cool, I believe, too cool to be sorry to be removed. SO, this one is a release of the building temptation for the feel of power.
GLad that you have completed your list, man. L4D2 is still untouchable to me. T.T Heard that it's good compared to the first yeh? Have fun. My holiday is ending soon.
