Description Can I just say now that I love Corel Painter?

Because I love Corel Painter.

About 2 hour test painting, just to see what I could do. Probably less time than that, I don\'t even know.

Comments, thoughts, opinions, and tips on using Corel, if you have them. Thanks for watching!

The bold stokes in this digital painting stand out in a way that actually blends nicely to create a powerful picture. The element of this creature is electricity, and the viewer indeed gets the feeling of energy pent up within it and the image as a whole. The low key color scheme works nicely to give the image a slightly sinister and dark feel, aiding the creature in looking more dangerous than it might otherwise seem if done in brighter colors. The expression is drawn without too much sharp attention to detail, as is the rest of this creature, which also aids in giving it a wild countenance. The effect of the lighter color surrounding the creature is beautiful, making it seem to glow from the energy force contained within it. The viewer can also sense emotion from it, as if it feels threatened by something or someone and is crouched in defense, ready to strike. The whole creature seems to be graceful as well, the viewer getting that feel from the arch of its back and the curve of its tail. All in all, this is a superb image, just flaring with beauty, grace, and a certain wild and savage quality that makes it intriguing. I must say, truly wonderful work!

This is by far the most powerful picture of Raichu I've ever seen on DA!

I need premium membership to give you critique, but I'll just give some without that, if that's ok

It's a pretty intense piece of art. I think you pulled of the 'aggresive' look very well! The anatomy looks pretty good to me (I'm not good at anatomy..)
Love how you worked so painterly, really. I like that, I do it too. This style is very rough though, it helps with the aggresive look, but I also think that you don't need sharp rough edges everywhere. In general, I like paintings that have focus or movement and at this moment I don't really know where or what to look at, it's a bit all over the place. Though you did this with Painter, the strokes look very graphical, as if it were made with Paint. I can see you made this, but usually you draw with a softer brush. My experience is that a good painting has both soft and hard edges, where needed. I think that would really make it spark, because when only the edges of the skin and the electricity would be sharp than it gives a more intense focus on that.

I like the colors a lot, they work well together. Love that you also used some blue-ish shades! I do think however that the yellow of the electricity/sparks is too soft. Like it were sand...but it's not. Maybe a more saturated yellow would work, or not, I don't know. You could also try a blue kind of electric that has a contrast with the yellow fur/skin?

You did really well on the light and shades, that is pretty awesome!

About the composition..hm.. it's okay. I'm not too good at compositions myself. I've seen your work, and I like it, but I think if you'd work more on a background than the paintings/drawings could have more depth, although the feeling that this Raichu is driven into a corner really works well here!

I don't know about blending brushes in Painter, but I tried some and I really love blending (though one shouldn't use it too much 'cause it makes it soft), that's something I miss here, but that could be a personal taste. I see really every stroke here and that makes it chaotic. Some people would say it doesn't look finished because it looks sketchy. But you use that more often, like you were looking for that perfect line. It could be a good thing, it could be a bad thing, I don't know.

Ok, hope that helped you! I like your work, it's great to see and keep on going!

Thanks Petra! It's so nive to get some good critical feedback. c:

I definitely know that there is stuff in this image that can be improved on, and I definitely hope to improve it, maybe one day, when I have enough knowledge to go back and redo it. The electricity could be better; I think the problem was the type of brush I was using (there are so many and they all interact differently with each other) and I think the background behind it could have used more light coming from the electricity. I also wanted to make it blue, but it wasn't going the way I planned, so it ended up yellow. ;o;

Either way, Corel is a Whole new Worrrld~ for me, and hopefully dipping into it a but will help me refine my work. And it will give me a break from my traditional work that is not so frustrating and hard to deal with. XD

I love it! It's so powerful, which is the feeling a person should get from a Pokemon in the energy element, no? Amazing work!
