Description Since the very first moment i laid my eyes on Cocorosie and this particular video (Gallows) I've wanted to draw something about the characters depicted there. I thought to create something realistic and colorful with lots of details and symbols from the video, but then i decided that it'd take me ages. So, being lazy and out of free-time, i settled with this variant. I wanted lines to be rough ad the whole drawing to look a bit messy as opposed to the clean picture we get while watching the video, because i wanted to emphasize the idea of how artificial they all three look. While looking through some traditional post-mortum photos i noticed that for me however 'natural' the pose of a deceased person might be on the surface there is also something very unnatural about it, something that made me think of an artist who got the resemblence in a portrait perfectly but forgot to put a little sparkle in eyes that makes the work 'alive'. When i started drawing this one, i wanted to bring those feelings into the work. I'm usually nore interested in lines and the way they can be supple and life-like but this time the solid dark color was more important.
Oh, i hate long comments, so i think it's better to watch the video [link]

and yeah - the words are taken from the song Gallows, of course.

amazing! the roots are so intricate i love it ^-^
also i think the off-black you've used gives it so much more depth than if you were to use pure black

thank ^^ i rarely use pure black because i think it can look too agressive sometimes when there are only two or three tones

i agree - my foundation art tutor constantly reminded us not to use pure black. in a way i think a mixture of blues and purples looks much more interesting though.

yeah, i've read somewhere that black is too tricky to use it without careful planning! And yet black is such a beautiful colour!
