Description "Jake Everant, please repot to area C for your battle. Again, Jake Everant, please report to area C for your battle," the intercom in the competitor's lounge blared.

Jake took a deep breath as he stood up. His mind raced with a million thoughts at once.

'Am I ready?' 'I should have trained some more.' 'I can do this.' 'I wonder who my first opponent will be.'

"Jake!" Haze snapped her fingers, "You're spacing out again."

"Oh right, sorry," Jake said, trying to seem calm.

In fact this was his first real tournament of this size, he was a little nervous to say the least.

"So are you ready Haze?"

"Always Jake," Haze replied wit an enthusiastic fist pump.

Jake pulled Haze's pokeball from his belt and returned her to the capsule. Jake took another deep breath as he looked around the room. Other contestants were busy either talking with each other or preparing for a match themselves. Jake walked to the door that led to the hall that would eventually lead to the stadium where a couple hundred spectators would be watching his every move. He lost his focus again in the hall and ran into a person that came running down the opposite way. They both staggered as they rubbed their bruised heads.

"Oh, I'm sorry, didn't mean to…hey wait a sec," Jake said with furrowed concentration.

Two pokemon that were knocked off the other person's shoulders quickly recomposed themselves.

"Hey watch where you're goin' dawg," An angry Pikachu piped up as he readjusted his hat.

"Neku, calm down it's alright," the kid said to the Pikachu before turning to Jake, "I'm sorry that was my fault."

Jake suddenly noticed the bracelet that other guy wore; the star pattern with 5 unique gems set into each point.

"Ahh! You're Ken Ryoken," Jake blurted, "How you doin' kid?"

"Hey don't call me kid and who…are…Jake?"

Jake smiled as he held out a hand to shake, "Ha, and here I thought you wouldn't remember me."

"Wait, who is this guy master?" Neku and a certain Azumarill asked at the same time.

Jake sighed, "Not surprising that they don't remember me, but we've met once before. I can't believe that this little hotshot remembers me though."

"I don't forget my friends easily," Ken smiled and shook Jake's hand in return.

One of the pokeballs on Jake's belt shook a bit before releasing Haze.

"Come on Jake, are we gonna fight yet," Haze groaned, completely ignoring Ken and his two pokemon.

"Bird brain?!" Mia uttered.

Haze narrowed her gaze at the insult, "Oh look, its a little water rat."

Haze and Mia started a stare off, the determination sent lighting strikes into each other's eyes.

Ken and Jake sighed but let the two have their way while they conversed.

"So are you in the tournament as well? I thought you were with the PEF," Ken started off.

"Actually, I left about a half year ago," Jake replied, "I wanted to experience more of the world. What about you?"

"Woah, that's pretty awesome, I thought my team needed a new challenge so we came here."

"Cool, I've also heard you're a scientist and own your own ranch to boot."

"Yep, the Golden Sun Crimson Moon ranch on the south coast of Sinnoh."

They were so caught up in talking that they nearly missed the announcement over the intercom system.

"Last call for Jake Everant, please report to area C for your battle. Again, last call for Jake Everant, please report to area C for your battle."

"Oh, shoot, we have to talk later, come on Haze," Jake said as he returned Haze to her pokeball again, "See ya later Ken!"

Ken waved after Jake, "Good luck!"

---

"Gliscor is unable to battle! Blaziken is the winner!" the referee called from the side of the field.

The crowd erupted into wild cheers and applause.

"Amazing! In a swift knock out, Jake's Blaziken has defeat Riddle's third pokemon," the first announcer cried over the crowd.

"That's right Chuck, and to think it would have ended sooner with Blaziken's type disadvantage in the third match," the second announcer added.

The guy named Riddle gritted his teeth as he returned his Gliscor to a pokeball.

The first announcer piped up to keep up, "This has been an incredible battle so far. Riddle has lost his Mamoswine, Umbreon, and Gliscor, while Jake is still on his first pokemon. Can his Blaziken keep up a win streak and what will be Riddle's next choice for the battle?"

Haze breathed heavily and sported many bruises from the three consecutive matches, but mostly from the third match in which the Gliscor go a good couple super effective hits on her.

"You know you can take a break and let someone else battle," Jake said with a small hint of concern.

Haze raised a sly eyebrow, "And give up on my streak?"

Jake sighed, "Ok then, just be ready."

Riddle took a bit of time before choosing his next pokemon, "Go! Pigeotto!"

"And Riddle's next pokemon is Pigeotto. Another type disadvantage toward Jake's Blaziken, but let's see if they can prove once again that in the end it all comes down to a matter of strength!" the second announcer continued.

"Haze, go in with Sky Uppercut," Jake issued his command.

Haze launched herself into the air, fist raised high with an envelope of energy straight toward the flying Pigeotto.

"Pigeotto, dodge," Riddle called out, as Pigeotto easily moved out of the way of Haze's attack, "Now use Double Team!"

Haze fell back to the ground and when she looked up for an opening, there were 10 Pigeottos flying through the air.

"Haze, use Flamethrower to bring them down," Jake called.

Haze understood what he meant and shot a wall of flames above the flying clones. The heat became too much to bear for Pigeotto and he flew lower to avoid getting singed.

Riddle saw the strategy, getting nervous as his pokemon got dangerously close to his opponent, "Pigeotto, dive in and use Aerial Ace."

Pigeotto and its clones shot straight down, pulling up at the last second to use as much momentum in the Aerial Ace attack.

"Careful Haze, be ready with a Sky Uppercut and wait for the real one," Jake said as Haze cocked a fist back.

Time felt like it past in a slower state as Haze and Jake concentrated to find the real Pigeotto among the remaining fakes, The first Pigeotto closed in on Haze, but something in her gut told her to hold.

'Not yet,' Jake thought when the first Pigeotto got close and passed harmlessly through Haze; a fake.

Another followed in suit fading into nothingness; another and then another, all fake until there were two left. The second to last Pigeotto closed in and Haze flinched, but she did not attack. The crowd gasped as the Pigeotto fazed through Haze and disappeared.

'Now!' Jake and Haze both thought and Haze brought her clenched fist and forward to meet the final Pigeotto.

A rush of excitement and anticipation ran through her as she executed her attack. The Sky Uppercut met the Pigeotto and connected with…nothing as the Pigeotto disappeared.

"Another fake?!"

Haze panicked and turned around just in time to see the real Pigeotto streaking down to attack from behind.

"Haze!"

It was a little too late as the Pigeotto slammed into Haze with incredible force, sending her flying off her feet.

"Blaziken is unable to battle! Pigeotto is the winner!" the referee called.

The crowd went wild with excitement as they witnessed the action.

"Looks like Riddle was able to overturn Jake's winning streak," The announcer said.

"That's right Chuck. Riddle's Pigeotto used Double Team as a distraction while it flew up through the Flamethrower to attack from behind."

Jake returned Haze to her pokeball, "You fought a great fight out there Haze," Jake reached for the next pokeball on his belt, "Xylon, let's go!"

The Metagross appeared from the flash of light and stomped a foot down as a show of power.

"No time to analyze your opponent Xylon," Jake said, "We need to take 'em down fast and hard."

"This poses quite the opposition then," Xylon replied.

"Just follow my lead, Start it off with Psychic!"

Riddle's Pigeotto squawked and flapped around wildly to try and break the crushing psychic hold.

"Pigeotto, Brave Bird…Gust…come on, do something," Riddle futilely called out to his pokemon.

"Now finish up with Rock Slide!"
The ground around Xylon cracked and broke up, rising above the helpless bird before falling and knocking Pigeotto out of the sky.

"Pigeotto is unable to battle! Metagross is the winner!"

The crowd exploded into a new round of cheers, chanting Jake's and Xylon's names.

"That was a pretty quick match," the second announcer whistled.

"I'll say," The first announcer agreed, "Riddle is having a hard time keeping up with this new underdog."

"It's not over yet," Riddle called, "Aggron, show them whose boss!"

"Wow, looks like Riddle is going with a major powerhouse," The first announcer commented

"Let's see if it will be enough to take down Jake and his team," the second announcer replied.

Riddle made the first move, "Aggron, Flash Cannon!"

"Well this should be interesting," Xylon said as he dug himself into the ground.

Riddle's Aggron had charged the Flash Cannon to enormous strength before unleashing the deadly beam. It hit square center of it target; Xylon's feet kept digging into the field as the attack pushed him back, it was a lot more powerful than he anticipated. Though Xylon started to glow and the blast seemed like it was not just hitting him, but being sucked in. Aggron's Flash Cannon attack faded, leaving the two pokemon at a sudden stand off.

Jake smirked, "Xylon, let's send that power back with Mirror Coat."

Xylon began to glow even brighter than before and shot a beam of energy toward the Aggron. The reflected energy hit its mark, throwing Riddle's pokemon off its feet and slam head first into the ground.

"Come on Aggron, you gotta tough it out," Riddle called to the staggering pokemon as Aggron got to his feet, "Alright, looks like we're gonna have to go all in."

Jake's heart pounded as he built his own plan, "Xylon, let's give it all we got as well."

"Aggron, Hyper Beam!"

"Xylon, Hyper Beam!"

Both pokemon began to charge their attacks; everything around them seemed to dim as the light from their attacks intensified. The crowd held their breath as they waited for the moment of action.

"Aggron, fire away!"

"Take them down Xylon!"

The two pokemon fired at the same time, their attacks meeting mid-field in a cascade of light and smoke. Clouds of dust and debris obscured the field as everyone shaded their eyes from the harsh light.

The dust and smoke settled and Aggron lay unconscious, with Xylon just barely standing.

"Aggron is unable to battle! Metagross is the winner!"

Rounds of cheers echoed around the field just about drowning out the announcers.

"Now that was an explosive victory for Jake," The first announcer yelling over the crowd.

"No kidding Chuck, this has been one intense match after another. But now Riddle is down to his last pokemon, I wonder how he'll make his final stand."

Xylon sported a good couple scrapes and signs of fatigue

"You good to go another round Xylon?"  Jake asked.

Xylon's eyes glowed with a sense of pride, "I am, good sir as you would say, 'Ready to rumble'."

"Come on Poliwrath, we have to turn this around," Riddle said, calling his last pokemon to the field.

The Poliwrath flexed his muscles and punched the air a couple times.

"I'm not giving up yet," Riddle growled, "Poliwrath, Hydro Pump, let's go!"

The Poliwrath shot a torrent of high velocity water at Xylon.

Jake made his move, "Xylon, dodge and hit 'em with a Hyper Beam!"

Xylon jumped out of the way of the incoming attack and charged another Hyper Beam in retaliation.

"Poliwrath, Protect!"

The Hyper Beam fired; Poliwrath through up its protective barrier. The light from Xylon's attack illuminated the field as it streaked toward its target. The shield withstood the onslaught with only a crack right down the middle.

"Quick, while they have to recharge," Riddle commanded, "Hi jump Kick!"

Poliwrath went for a running start and leapt into the air toward Xylon.

Jake smirked, "Xylon, use Psychic!"

Riddle and Poliwrath were thrown off guard by the quick recovery of the Metagross as he unleashed a wave of psychic energy to barrage the incoming Poliwrath. Poliwrath was gripping his head in pain as he began to fall out of his attack.

"Ok Xylon, jump out of the way!"

Xylon shifted to the side as he kept up his attack; Riddle's Poliwrath couldn't stop his fall and slammed face first into the ground where Xylon once stood. Inside the newly made small crater, Poliwrath twitched but unable to move.

"Poliwrath is unable to battle, Riddle is out of pokemon! Jake and his team are the winners!"

Many excited gasps, cheers, and yells came from the stands to congratulate Jake on his victory.

"Wow, that was some battle," the first announcer proclaimed, "In a stunning win, Jake will be moving on to Round two of the tournament!"

The second announcer whistled, "That was definitely a great strategy at the end to use Poliwrath's attack against him like that by tricking him with a quick recharge after the Hyper Beam. Good luck to Jake in the second round as we witness some more spectacular battles later on."

Riddle called back his Poliwrath to its pokeball, "*sigh*, you all fought well, but we'll have to train even harder to win next time."

Jake returned Xylon as well and walked to the middle of the field with Riddle.

He extended his hand and smiled, "You're a great trainer Riddle; I hope we can battle again sometime."

Riddle smiled in return and shook Jake's hand, "Thanks and anytime kid, but I'll win next time."

well ya know this would work if we got an ueeven number of competitors. humanpikachu's match was against me, so both of us wrote it outin our own version. good thing you didnt put yourself up against him. no paradox, phew.

Yep, the spacetime continuum would not be able to contain the overwhelming paradox

well, it might, but only if there's an energy source to generate the temporal power to balance the anomaly.

I made so his round took place before mine, thus voiding the time paradox.
