Description "Jake I'm scared, I don't think I can do this," The little Oshawott known as Rachael clung to her master's leg, shaking.

Her eyes trailed up to Jake who looked back with a practiced, encouraging smile. He got to a knee to meet the timid Water-type at eye level and patted her head, careful not to mess up her freshly brushed coat.

"Don't worry Rachael we'll do splendidly," Jake reassured his pokemon partner.

In reality though, the adult trainer was just on the verge of sweating bullets. His heart pounded against his rib cage like it wanted to break free or explode. This was the first contest for either of them would be in and even though they had spent a good part of the week preparing their routine for this day, they never expected the contest hall to be so overwhelmingly crowded. In fact, it was utterly nerve racking. But with her friend and trainer by her side giving her reassuring thoughts, Rachael slowly unclung herself from her hideaway and shelter.

Jake stood back up, proud to see the determination shine in Rachael's eyes again and dusted his tuxedo he wore. Rachael herself (neither she nor Jake having much experience in pokemon contests and selecting accessories) wore a simple light blue bow behind her left ear that coordinated well with her natural colors.

From beyond the curtain that separated the main hall from the backstage, the crowd let out a final and chorusing cheer for the contestant already on stage. The contestant, a girl with fiery red hair and wearing a sunny yellow dress climbed backstage following the curtain line. She was followed by a Glameow that sported an elegant looking yellow, silk cape with intricate patterns of flowers. The Glameow also had a headband that had a wide assortment of colorful flower petals draped from it. Upon seeing Jake and Rachael as they walked by, she gave a snooty scoff.

"Good luck newbie, you're gonna need it to even come close to my score."

With that she pranced off, her Glameow thoroughly enjoying seeing Rachael wince every time she shot a glare at her.

"J-Jake?"

"Hey, come on now. What did I say?" Jake soothed, "We can do this."

Rachael unclung herself from Jake's leg, which she returned behind to avoid the haughty glares of the Glameow, and took a deep breath to steady herself.

"Ready?"

Rachael nodded, her determination returning over her squirming nervousness. This was it, their first contest. Win or loss, Jake and Rachael were gonna give their all.
