Great! What lens did you use for this photo? How close can one get to the lava flows?

Lens was a AF-S NIKKOR 18-70mm.
We were a bit more than 1 km away said the guide. If you ever plan to go to Stromboli though, I suggest you take a telezoom lens and a tripod along, and you dont go up on the small tourist platform where I shot this. Instead, stay about 100m lower at the observatory of the Italian civil protection, where they have a bar and a restaurant. Put your camera with tele lens on a tripod and keep your remote in one hand while you enjoy excellent food and drinks with the other hand

I second the square crop.
Volcano + full moon = two of the greatest things in the universe.
It even tops the volcano + thunderstorm pic I saw from the Chilean volcano eruptions like 8 months ago!

Well the dark area on the left is great if you use it as a desktop wallpaper, so you can put your items there, but for everything else, I agree with a square crop. Thanks for the advice, both of you
