A gift art for my #1 artist inspiration, Autlaw of the idea we'd talked about some time ago of our kitsune characters meeting! <3 I started on this waaay back in the spring after Autlaw finished my commission of Evarin, then finally found time to restart it this summer. Autlaw's birthday was the 23rd, so I tried to see if I could finish this up on the 22nd, but this didn't end up being my usual 9-12 hour piece. XD 28 hours of fine detail because I really enjoyed pouring all my love into the art and characters. <33 In the end, I finished this yesterday, so it's a very belated birthday gift. *u*

Her kitsune, Akazu, the bigger one in this video, is a nogitsune, which is basically the malevolent or "evil" version of a kitsune, since they usually are loyal to the Japanese deities. Nogitsune defy those deities such as Inari. :3 So a meeting between these two might be veeeery interesting. XD I also read Akazu's amazing backstory and bio where he's going up in vengeance against some powerful nobles, which I thought was totally awesome, the theme of nogitsunes defying high nobility and power like that. Kitsunes are epicly vengeful, awesome creatures. Also his inspirational song totally matches that so much!

Even though Shizuka comes from her own parallel universe, and Akazu comes from his own world as well, they're at a place similar to the Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto, Japan. *u* It's inspired off my own visit to the place when I studied abroad in Japan this Spring semester! I wasn't able to take a trip under all 1000 of the tori gates up the mountain to the top due to time restrictions, but I passed 100! Also that background was another fun new challenge~ The sky is saturated red with magic coming from the presence of two powerful, magical creatures. It was also inspired by the scene in Naruto when Itachi uses Tsukiyomi on Kakashi, the idea of an unnatural, tainted atmosphere. Well unexpectedly, Akazu's tails had some juicy background painting for dinner, so I decided to link the background here so people can see that a background did at one point exist, with less detail where I knew the characters would cover up. XD BG Also I found out that shading from furthest back to closer up works great.

In this scene, there's a lot of ways to interpret what's going on, but a couple things I had in mind was that they meet, and it's not exactly friendly. Shizuka's doing that fox thing that real foxes do where they open their mouths and growl in a squeaky voice, trying to be intimidating by showing their fangs, but instead to me, it just makes their cheeks squish up, and they look fluffy and cute. <3 Shizuka wants to make an escape if at all possible since she only has 4 tails compared to Akazu's full set of 9, so in about a second or two, she'll probably bounce into his blindspot on the right side covered by a bandage and some fluffy bangs before attempting to sprint away with all her might. X3 Or maybe she's being chased from the top of the shrine, or maybe she's trying to get past him... or maybe she's trying to protect the shrine which would be a daring endeavor, but she would probably put her life out on the line and fight to the death for that out of moral standards and the urge to protect holy places like shrines.

One last possible interpretation or two,
Shizuka: "NOOOOOOO NOT THE POKE OF DEATH!! V:"
Akazu: "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! >: D"

Akazu: "Where's your crown, King Nothing!?"
Shizuka: "I keep telling everyone, it's 'Priestess,' not 'Princess'!"
