Description Finally weekend and time to scan some more pages - these are from December and early January, I think.

Mainly studies of Lytha. I still need some more consistency for drawing characters. It's so damn hard to do and easy to fail at. D:

But I actually like some of these pretty much. Might also throw some paint onto them for practise. :3

I love the one when her hair is flying up around her face like that. And when she gets in gypsy garb I can't help but think Esmerelda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

She earning some money as a fortune teller and her outfit is exactly playing up to that gypsy clichΓ© cause people tend to pay more for a good show.

The only thing I ever hear about gypsies is that they're crazy and you should avoid them.

I love her design! The big and flowy hair along with her loose dress and lovely headdress. That's a great combo I hope to see more of her.

Thankies! Definitely will paint her any time soon. (Doing something in my comfort zone is at least better than doing nothing at all.)

Hehe, don't worry, any painting always helps you improve In any case, it'll make your comfort zone really pro-looking! Portraits are such an important part of any figurative piece so there's no shame in improving in that area.

Your'e welcome.

How do you get a background texture in?
If youre doing it on a computer, dosent the sketch start out as the background?

I compile these in Photoshop.

First I scan the images and then copy & paste them into the big image I want as my sketchbook page - usually a new 2000x3000pixel image. Thus the scans are on a separate layer (or in my case on several layers).

Then I just take a texture (I have several saved on my hard disk), put it under my scanned drawings, set opacity at about 50% and set the scans to multiply. Multiply makes white invisible and you lines darker. So I end up with something like this in the layers module:

(top)
Scans @ multiply
Texture @ 50%
White Background
(bottom)

Usually I need to duplicate the scans layer to get a nice contrast for the drawings. :3

Of course! Haha, should have known that. XD

So yeah, you could experiment a bit with the tips and tricks from these tutorials and then see what works best for you. :3

Yup!
My biggest problem is accidentally drawing on the actual canvas layer in photoshop, but I just need to be more careful..

I almost never really use the background layer for this reason.
