I really love this little vignette - there's something intriguing & curiously wholesome about it!
You know if I ever scrape together the funds, one would love to see your take on a "We're not STAR TREK yet, but we're open to offers!" crew cooked up by yours truly and a friend some years ago* for one of our own personal sandbox settings; alas that you're not only enormously talented but almost certainly going to be kept far, far too busy by the admirers such Talent richly merits to spare much attention for my own rambling ideas!
