Maybe Solas could be a good mentor for Merrill, carefully directing her on when it's wise to use blood magic and when it's not, how to be truly careful about spirits, and nicely informing her about the mistakes in Dalish culture.

I know I keep saying this, but I *love* this picture to pieces. They just look so comfortable together, with Merrill chatting away about spirits and the like in ways she's probably never been able to; Grandpa Pyjama Elf listening contently. It's just lovely.

they did indeed! Solas is voiced by the same chap who plays Ianto, and Merrill is voiced by the lady who plays Gwen; both main characters
I'll admit; I had to IMDB Solas when I was playing through DA:I though.. he sounded soooo familiar, but i just couldn't place him! hehe XD

Merrill is a Dalish Blood Mage
no offense but Solas would basically be a second Fenris towards call basically calling her an idiot for believing in her peoples history when she should be questioning it and tearing it apart

Actually, no. He actually believes that Blood Magic is just another form of magic and can be used for good and evil alike, although he does not practice it himself. And to the history part: even when you are a Dalish Inquisitor (Lavellan) he will not 'tear' anything 'apart'. He is respectful about it. I doubt he would chide her for anything, except perhaps her part in Marathari's death.
I am not sure why you got the idea that he would be angry about Dalish believing in their history. He might correct a few things if I found it better for them to know the truth (like the vallaslin for Lavellan) but I agree with poly, here, and think they would most likely get along

Merril is PERFECT for Solas - a mage willing to question and experiment instead of just taking everything at face value. She even believes one can work with spirits safely. I mean wow. These two could talk for a week leaving a somewhat confused and despondent hawke and inquisitor to their own thing
