Greetings! This is Roxis from Project Comment here to write up a little feedback on your work. First off I really like this piece. The posing of the characters, the details and the background all come together to make something really nice. I have a somewhat difficult time with backgrounds so great job on this. Plus it unifies the entire piece. I also really liked the detailing on the character's fur. It's subtle but not over doing it, as well as the fir on the face. It actually gives off varying texture and makes it more realistic.

Now as always there are things to be improved upon! First off one major issue I have with it is the dragon in the background. It's lovely but it's too lovely. My eyes keep flickering back and forth between the dragon and the main character. They shouldn't be competing for the viewer's attention. Unless this dragon has something to do with the character I would place it with the character. If not, than I would make it smaller so it would only be a silhouette of a dragon. The viewer could make out that it's still a dragon but it's in the background where it belongs.

Your lighting is off o a good start but I believe you could go further with it. Looking at where his shadow is and the lighting it gets slightly confusing looking at the surrounding greenery. The branch in the foreground should be dark with some vague highlights on it. Brighter highlights can be applied to the grass and the leaves in the background. Additionally, some shading could help to bring out the character more. Where he's crouched for instance could be much darker. I only see one tone of shading, when you should have different levels. This will bring out more of the fine details you've created in this piece. The lower part of his bow could be shaded darker as well.

Overall, great job. I love the texturing and I hope my feedback helped!

This piece is a long overdue portrait of one of my oldest roleplaying characters. I say overdue not because of how long it took to make, but because of how long it took me to get this commission. Arator Drubunir has existed in my mind and in various roleplays for over seventeen years. He was my first character on Furcadia and is tied with a couple of messageboard RP characters for being my oldest roleplaying creation, period.

But while those messageboard RPs eventually ended and their characters were retired, Arator has gone on, growing and developing, aging in real time along with me. But yet, other than a few sketches, he's never had a portrait commissioned. This is the third commission PointyHat has done for me and is easily the most significant and important to me personally.

She nailed it. This is beautiful. I especially like the lighting and the expression on his face. Casually friendly, totally at home in the forest, exactly as Arator is. The level of detail is phenomenal. I'm staring at this picture, trying to find something to constructively criticize, but I'm having trouble finding anything. I suppose if I have to be critical of something, Vargost's wings look a little off. He's obviously intended to be either gliding along or coming in for a landing, but the angle of the wings makes it look like he's banking into a turn, but the rest of his body is not following through.

Or this portrait could be capturing his wings in a downbeat. Seriously, I'm struggling to find something that could be improved here and the odd wing position is the only thing I can find. And that's stretching. This picture is just so excellent. You outdid yourself.

Hey there, I've come from  ProjectComment, here to give you a little bit of feedback, hopefully it's useful.

Let's start with what I think you did well. First up, I really like all the details you have going here. The central character has some great texture work with the fur and shirt, and those eyes are amazing. I also like the background, I think you did a great job adding the right amount of detail while also blurring it slightly to keep the focus on the main character.

Now, in terms of feedback, one of the first things I would like to comment on is the shadow on the face. Compared to the rest of the character the face stands out too much as there is little to no deep shadows. I think if you added some darker shadows, especially around the edges it would help the face blend in with the rest of the character.

I also think that near the bottom of the body there seems to be a little too many sharp edges on things. Perhaps adding some darker, more varied shadows on the grass would help, especially when you see the deep black shadows on the clothes. Indeed, some of the shadows on the legs could possibly be improved.

As a final bit of advice, I would look into back-lighting. For the most part your lighting is brilliant, but I feel it could benefit just a bit with the use of back-lighting, such as on the edges of the cloak, where a little bit of soft highlighting could really make the character fit in with the environment, instead of sticking out too much with the super sharp contrast.

Anyway, that's just a little bit of feedback, I really hope it helps. If you have any questions please do ask!

Hi! Here from #projectcomment

I must say that I love the background of this piece, it has a lot going on and still doesn't feel to crowded or anything, I also like all the diferent textures and details, specially on the character's clothes.

Maybe the dragon could use a little more detail or some darker shades to bring it to the front... unless your idea was to leave it as a part of the background, of course.

As for the other character... he looks like he doesn't really belong in the picture. To be honest, I'm not sure about what causes this efect, maybe he is too detailed in conparison to the rest, but it looks like he has been "glued" into the landscape instead of belonging there.

Overall, I really like this

Hope I helped in some way, ☺

Thank you.  And to answer your question, yes - the dragon was meant to be part of the background.  He's even very slightly blurred to take him a little out of focus.

Thanks for the comment, and thanks for faving too!

You're welcome.

By the way, I looked at Nukem9999's page. He doesn't have anything posted.

How was he able to create these two characters?

PointyHat In reply to Wolfboy1020 [2017-01-18 17:04:20 +0000 UTC]

He plays them on an MMO called Furcadia and has these two characters there.  He is not an artist himself, he is a writer. That's why he commissioned me to do the painting!
