Description This was going to be a snapshot of a move (if i had made one) that would be a horror film. Since i do not know where to go with this from here i am going to call this finished.

I will most likely remake this on a larger scale, this is done with a single pencil (not no.2 so its alittle darke then HB) And lots of erasing and layering. Hope you enjoy and feel free to critique aswell.

Here, I see some problem in the anatomy of the hands. I would strongly suggest you to take an anatomy book and learn a bit what is under the skin!

For the fabric the problem is that the ripples should be vertical, not horizontal. In this kind of case, I strongly suggest to use a model. Take a picture and use it. Same for the reflection of the door knob.

Also, try to add a background. Even if it is a flat grayish color or something very blur, it will allow you to add some good rim light wich will make your picture a lot more contrasted.

I know, my comments are shorter than the first ones, but consider that I just add information I see for each pictures, but my other comments could still applies!

I'm more then highly aware of my anatomy issues. Thanks for pointing it out. The door knob i agree could practice with references.

The fabric i never thought about good point out.

As for the backround. I guess the greyish tone would be a find addition for next time.

It is fine keep them coming its very constructive!

This looks good, the hand does look a little too flat, and there's something slightly off about the wrist. But I like the slender appearance to the woman and the feel of the piece.

PMMurphy In reply to AmayaElls [2012-06-08 14:17:27 +0000 UTC]

Yes... you pointed out a weakness in my art. Shape/form. I have been working on it and practicing it but im still not very good at it. It deals with my lack of knowledge with lighting and various things like that and my sketches are too bold lines and i like to emphasize them. I have stopped doing this in my later pieces this one is pretty old. Now that i look at it the wrist is odd. That's another issue of mine anatomy. I dont really draw figure study's and anatomy study's ive done maybe 5 total in my 9 years of drawing. (excluding a few portraits). So i need to practice that aswell.

Thanks though always appreciate constructive comments.

You're welcome. I'd definitely advise doing some more anatomy studies then. Whenever you get the chance to.

I will. I should be practicing and preparing myself for my friends cover album im asked to do. So after that is finished i have some requests from deviants that require me to study anatomy. My anatomy is SOOOOO bad now. Ill upload my latest attempt so you can hurl a boulder.

Sone nice shading here, though I would suggest sharpening the edges a little more, this looks a little messy due to smudged lines and the paper doesn't look too great with the line marks.
I can see you have a good handle on lighting though!
Those hands look odd to me also, I completely understand its the hardest thing in the world for me to draw them
Maybe look at some references?

thanks its just some random idea i threw together in my sketch book with some darker pencil i found laying around. I could be cleaned up and such but ehh i didnt care.

I love the relationship between the shading and the white space/voids in the middle, it's quite striking

PMMurphy In reply to Brocc [2012-05-26 11:41:15 +0000 UTC]

im glad. When i drew it i planned on drawing an entire room and everything. So i started with the door handle and the arm and so on and so forth. By the time i finished the actual message/part of the piece i tried to think, now what to do for the backround? ALl my ideas were terrible and i thought it was good enough as it was. Only flaw is you see erase marks .

Brocc In reply to PMMurphy [2012-05-26 19:49:10 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh right, i think it worked out for the best. It's good to keep the main subject areas alone sometimes, it just makes more of an impact.
Ah, well I didn't realise them at first, so that's nothing to worry about, ha.

PMMurphy In reply to Brocc [2012-05-26 23:11:01 +0000 UTC]

well, 90% of the art i have uploaded on DA are from my sketch books anyway. SO im not too worried about little things just developing techniques and practicing compositions and such.

WOW!! This reminds me of Edward Gory's work, but it's actually NOTHING like it...

I get several messages from this and that's what I love most. Well done in flow and feel.
Great work!

PMMurphy In reply to TheMadMulatto [2009-07-26 14:14:25 +0000 UTC]

I really appreciate your comment

I hope one of the messages is fear XD

THe actual piece of this is ruined now. Mostly cuz i did it in a cheap sketch book. But i know how to recreate it. glad you enjoy.

TheMadMulatto In reply to PMMurphy [2009-07-26 14:44:43 +0000 UTC]

DO recreate it!!
Hope I get to see the rebirth - it's a terrific piece, man.

and yes, one of the messages was certainly fear,
but the whimsical, passing, romantic kind that keeps you
sighing and wide awake at night looking towards the window.

It looks creepy, but I don't know why. The values are really good, it looks like a statue that comes to life when you're not looking at it. Anatomy's a bit off, but it still looks good.

Anatomy and figure is my worst subject i try my hardest to work around it when i actually do pieces like this.

But that is why i will go to art school

Im glad you like it thanks for the comment.
