Actually
Magik DID die of the illness, but they brought a time-tossed version of her back from Limbo
and
Cypher was brought back to life with a mixture of dark magic and the transmode virus - which he then "cured" himself of, and both are on the newest version of the New Mutants.
NOBODY dies in Marvel.

The current Magik was more like a "reconstruct" of the original. Belasco wanted Illyana, but instead, he got Illyana's demonic persona because she didn't have her soul.

LOL. Pretty much this. I miss THAT Cypher. Yeah, he was useless but at least he had a personality.

Apparently he's back! He's in the story "Second Coming" and he goes to the future with Cable to hack Mastermold, and Cable honestly says, "It's machine code."
I'm not even makin' this shit up.

thanks! yeah, it's nice to see them together, (even if the first arc was a little slow...) it's picked up a lot since then, and maybe if we're lucky we'll see a scene not unlike this one show up

It went better than I expected it too, but I that's because I was so disappointed with Young X-men that I wasn't sure which way NM would go.
But I have to say, it's looking pretty impressive. =3

Again man, they are so cute.
Cypher doesn't need a book but he was an intellectual so he probably had it carrying around and remembered something helpful in it. If Dough has survived I think he'd have used his intellect to make up for his lack of offensive powers. Look at Forge with his bionics and gadgets. He could have evolved in any number of ways. Dough is great character that's still missed. He wasn't all powerful but he had a heart and personality stronger than most superheroes.

Forge's knack for building tech WAS his power. And Doug was brought back to life recently. He worked with X-Factor for a while.

yeah, doug will be making a return to the New Mutants this fall too, after what - 20 years? could be interesting. i always thought it'd be cool if he could hone his "linguistic powers" to read body language, and basically learn fighting styles the way Taskmaster and Echo do

although he DID read body language when he was playing poker at the hellfire club when that tart Roulette was rigging it for him. Then he slapped that ho. oh Doug....

Why would Cypher need a book? That defeats the whole purpose of his stupid power!
/nerd whine

Actually it doesn't. It's only dictionaries and translation guides he doesn't need, he still needs to read to learn. He could be reading the book of how to get out of wherever they are stuck.
