I was going to wait and release this later in the week, but Equestria Daily's Summer Sun Celebration theme is too appropo to pass up, so here's the ridonkulous project that's kept me busy lately.

Doctor Whoof is still ongoing, but I wanted to take some time to enter a Star Swirl related contest on Ponychan, as well as come up with a shorter, self-contained story for the Tales From Equestria thing.

Until then, My Little Sunshine is my most ambitious- and time consuming- project to date. It's obviously a parody of the movie Sunshine about what happens when Celestia mysteriously fails to raise the sun over Ponyville.

Well, the nuclear sun in the comic seemed to deal with Celestia! Unless I have the wrong enemies list here. Huh. Well, don't I feel silly!

I was actually wondering where that quote came from about Mr. Sun killing the enemies! Several people have posted that lately and I was all confused!

I love this entire comic!!! When I first found it I was blown away by how beautiful it is. I don't really like Sunshine, it has a very weak second half and a bunch of clichΓ©s ruin the steady original tone the whole movie was achieving. But it is one of the best looking sci fi movies I've ever watched, and this comic is just as beautiful.

I just adore that film! You are right, it had its share of problems in the second half (chief among them it went from hard sci fi to horror so quickly it left my head spinning) but was so visually brilliant, well acted, and posessed of a singularly breathtaking soundtrack that I can forgive all its problems!

This was one of the first pony anythings I ever made and looking back I'm still pretty proud of it!

That is true, Sunshine was great acted. Cyllian Murphy is one of my favorite actors of all time and he should be in more movies. Lets hope they do cast him for that Third Tron movie they want to make (he would be Dillinger's son from the first one).

You better be proud of this comic, it's gorgeous and it makes me want to buy a copy of Sunshine on DVD.

I swear the movie Sunshine is so hard to figure out. It's full of bad decisions from the characters and the science makes no sense... but they do so many things right with it too! Like not starting the movie on earth and they had one of the most awesome heroes I've ever seen (Mace). It's so weird.

You are totally right! I think, though, that the bad decisions are actually part of the point. The very human, curious, and compassionate decisions that are made (like pursuing the Icarus I, or voting to not kill Trey) represent all the reasons we as a species are worth saving- even as those same decisions almost lead to our destruction.

And you're also right that Mace is one of the best hero characters in any movie ever. Not flashy, superheroics, just a commitment to mission and ideals and willingness to risk everything personally (while cautioning against risks to the mission) in order to save the world.

I could easily watch that movie every other day and never get bored. It's absolutely stunning.

Yeah, I agree. Those decisions that were bad were ones that anyone could make, but when Mace got up in front of everyone to remind them that they were on a mission for the fate of the entire earth and that they couldn't risk going for the other ship my friend and me shouted, "YES!". And it was great that they didn't start the movie on Earth because it gave more time for the important part AND it meant that the science inaccuracies would be put in your face. It basically is a story that wants you to just say, "Look, we know some of this makes no sense but we want to make this story so please just roll with us." Which isn't a bad thing, lot's of cartoons use that premise. Maybe I SHOULD buy that movie next time I'm out...
