in all honesty, this isnt really a drawing, but a digital composite of several drawings. the Frodo and sam were drawn as graphics to be used in my current interactive project, and the mountains....don't they look familiar? want a hint? yupyupyup! those mountains were recycled from that drawing and used as a backdrop.so, i've been dying to submit something, because i've been a real slacker on dA lately, and frodo and sam need way more representation in my gallery, and most of all, i got bored and confused programming actionscript, so i decided to make an artistic mashup of pre-existing drawings.

yay! thank you for noticing but yeah, that bugs me so much when people do that, and i try to avoid it at all costs, but it really is hard. i have my own verison of all the characters in my mind, but often because the movie is a more "solid" visual representation of the characters, the two versions tend to meld together.
but, to be fair, the movie was spot on with the casting in terms of getting the characters looks down, with only a few exceptions, which i wont get into here because the rant could make this comment waaay longer than nescessary ^^

i have to admit that what i like most about this painting is the fact that the two of them do not look like their characters in the movie. they have the look of children that got lost in a deserted landscape, and that somehow goes great with their story.

ooooooooh i like what you've read into! My mental visions of the characters are always at odds with the movie versions, and usually i think they end up looking too movie-ish, as opossed to how i imagined them from the book.

I like the colours on Sam and Frodo a lot! I like a lot Frodo and Sam themselves, 'cause the designs are very original.

mmm, you're probably right about the composition. i mean as i look at it again, sam is in the background, and yet is taller than frodo!
thanks for seeing the originality in the designs though! i cant say i put a whole lot into thinking about how they look....they are desrcibed pretty dead-on in the book. but i love drawing sam with his "felt bag that he called a 'hat'"
i really wish they had included it in the movie.

I loved how tolkien described sam's hat in the book, it sounded so cute! "a felt bag that he called "a hat" ^^
