Wow this is an extraordinary piece of painting!
Firstly, I love how the colours all seem to blend together harmoniously to create a mood of glory and anticipation (best way to put my thoughts to words xD). I have to attribute this to the contrast of light and dark in the water as well the sky in the background - as if the sun is rising or falling (I'd like to think of it as rising).
The most striking aspect of this painting is the attention and lifelikeness of the background! It's amazing how detailed each crest of the wave is, or how stone-like the rocks are 
Another detail that brings life to this painting would be the contrast of the dynamic and the static. The ever stoic rocks sit with great impassivity while the frantic waves thrash about and the Siren's hair billows about in the wind like wind chimes! Her clothing too (more like accessories
