The idea of a fire pig really touched a raw nerve. Is the pig going to roast itself? Well i am sure that the early-on jabs at the pokabu (and the rest of the unova starter pokemon) are not unfounded insecurities. I think people want a more respected animal form and that charmander has set the bar really high as the first fire starter. Well I don't think the design of tepig is any repulsive (other than the pun on the concept), in fact it does has its certain cuteness and charm to it.. I guess it's one of the most daring designs for a 'non-canonical' starter. Bravo.
