Hahaha, that's why I've always preferred to keep my hair short.

My hair now is the shortest it's been with I was a kid. Though it's curly hair it's still work to keep it nice looking. Which is why am lazy and just leave it in a pony tail.

Ok, Latino (er... is that correct in this case?) people can have naturally curly hair, too, but when you say "afro" I think "colored". XD

This item was actually quite the strange occurrence, though. A customer was able to return it with no issues because they had a receipt and it clearly came from "Michaels" however I was later asked about it from one of my managers (again, there was no issue because I confirmed they had a receipt) but because it was an item our specific location does no carry (the reason why I had never seen one before or I'd have gotten one a long time ago) so the item was sold "As Is", meaning that it was very cheep.
As for tutorials, I agree there are some wonderful ones out there but at the same time I seem to have lost the will to use them. After attempting for so long I've realized that no one's process is the same and while it does not make them wrong or right it DOES make it all the more difficult to find the one that may suit you when compared with experimenting to finding your own method.

I see. It's not an all day item, I couldn't even tell where to get it as regular part of the supply. And now I see why it is a missed opportunity if you would have had the chance to purchase it yourself afterwards.
Same here. After you feel you've got the hang of it and found your own ways of drawing, tutorials loose their appeal. How about reference sheets? Thy are never complete, but often a good collection of poses.

I'm as clueless as you are to where I could find a unique art tools like this, so you now know why I'm disappointed. :hmmm: The only thing I can even think of would be to look up the brand name and pray they have some kind of online store.
A reference sheet would be a more favorable option. But with something as broad as shading, a bit more of an explanation is still needed, unfortunately. What it comes down to: I need someone who can teach me how a light source works in terms I can understand. From there, I can practice it until I find a technique that works for me.

I suppose this is the best source. Or if there are shops were traditional artists buy their supplies, like canvases, colors and brushes. But these must be rare, I couldn't even tell you one near my place of this kind of specialized shops.
For shading, maybe this could be of help? [link] I think it explains the effects of light scources pretty well. It helped me to get the basic feeling. It's not too sophisticated to deter in my opinion, but the results are neat. Trying other techniques aside the darker color for shades can be interesting, like using the same color for the shades on another layer in "multiply" mode. One strength is it gives a good insight in how to shade/highlight certain forms.

Oh yes, it was hard not to remember the brand since it seems to be the "generic" brand for our store. But indeed, I was quite successful! In addition to my new tool for drawing it also turned out that the next volume of the Sailor Moon manga was available as well as a few other volumes I needed. One of my more expensive trips, but well worth it, especially considering that I still am getting big paychecks from the holiday.
Of course the methods are not new to be, but the problem remains that I just seem to be blind to seeing where they fall when see other people doing it unless it is very, very obvious. I have noticed, however, that the artist for Yu-Gi-Oh seems to use a rather extreme form of shading so perhaps studying this will help.

You should do BRS anyway just for fun. Maybe dressing Mina as Miku might be a fun project for later.
