Some of it, yes. On The Waterfront was all location shots. Sunset Blvd. was more exaggerated for effect.

yes, I saw it, a beautiful historical film shot in Italy, even Orson filmed some film noir "lo straniero", "la signora di Shanghai", "Mr. Arkadin" and "Touch of Evil"

Yes, those were all very good, especially Touch of Evil. Lo Staniero is the only Welles movie to make money.

yes, he wanted to show that he was able to make a "normal" film, for shoot "Othello" he did incredible things for 4 years to find the money to finish it
