Yes, Anzac Day is similar... It's the 25th April, and the anniversary of the day the War ended. We remember those troops that fought for us in the 1st& 2nd World Wars. Our Vietnam Vets are also allowed to march in our parades now.
We also pay our respects on Remembrance Day too!
I'm not sure whether the Americans or Canadians do anything for Anzac Day. Here in Australia we have Dawn Services all over the country & a large street parade/march through the heart of the City (well in Sydney we do). Tis also a public holiday. It's quite an emotional time for us.

oh it sounds very much like our Remembrance day with parades and out door services, it is really moving and sad that people still have not learned not to fight.

Anzac Day refers to the day that World War 2 ended, which was the 25th April 1945.
So every year on the 25th April, Australia celebrates & remembers those who fought for our freedom & way of life in both World War 1 and 2... We also pay our respects to those who are currently fighting & protecting our country. There is usually a service held at dawn (approx 4.30am)and then a huge march/parade held in the city & smaller gatherings in Retired Servicemens Leagues clubs (RSL's) around the country.

Well, I didn't get into the final 13 in the contest, but it doesn't matter - I had a whole heap of fun being part of it & creating this piece.

I really must learn to sit & think about what colour schemes I want in pieces... I very rarely do & therefore it takes me ages to actually start painting! I'm so unorganised!

I woke up that morning & just had to paint poppies... So I did... Was strange - its not often I get the urge to paint a specific flower like that.

And your poem is beautiful! I really love it!

I guess the popies have a lot of symbolism attached to them. I remember reading out a poem in front of the assembly at school. the only line I can remember is something about poppies in the field row by row.

Thanks! The flowers were fun to do.
As for her outfit, I had to do a bit of guesswork as the model was wearing black baggy/flowy top, so I had to hope that I drew her bits in the right places! I think it turned out ok...

I was slacking, then dreading the 438,209 messages (I made a # up), and then last week I was in Las Vegas with the family on vacation. Now I'm back and sorting through he 300+ devs, 80+ journals and other things I missed here. I should NEVER leave again, but it was such fun!!!
