Indeed it really depends on the photographer but leaving it on Auto almost guarantees a poor shot especially for toys

Very true... There are moments where it works and where it doesn't. I have done one or two with flash, but that's only when necessary, not all the time...

Definitely agree on that one. Β The switch to a light box and diffused lighting has changed my results drastically.
