I found out when I was 14, that I had diabetes type 1. It was really bad, for a week I would do nothing bit sleep, drink water, or go to the bathroom. My head was clouded and everyone tells that I was talking oddly. When my mom decided to take me to the hospital I fell asleep on the ride there. When I woke up a day later they told me my blood sugar had been so high off the charts that they had no idea how high it was. And that it was so bad, at first they thought I had a brain tumor. But I'm all better now!

There really are many many false assumptions that people have about diabetes.
I have had type 1 (juvenile insulin dependent) diabetes since I was a small child. I can't tell you how many times I've been told by others "well, you shouldn't have gotten so fat" or "You shouldn't have eaten so much". My diabetes was hereditary. I was pretty much born with a failing pancreas.
I'm happy that you've come to terms with your illness and are looking at the bright side!

Thank you ^_^ I was taken off of the medication and have been doing pretty well managing my diabetes through healthy eating and exercise! Plus I've been reading this amazing book called Real Food and she has so many great points. I've also had a lot of support from members of my family who have diabetes. It's nice to know that there is a lot of support in the community c:

That's the spirit!
I had a classmate in high school that had (and still have I suppose) diabetes, nothing wrong with her, always cheerful and perky, really good at P.E. the only time you noticed she had diabetes was when she had to take her insuline shots.

I really don't either...neither do a lot of my friends with Juvenile diabetes (I wonder if it's got anything to do with it?).
I got the flu a few months back...it was terrible. D:

I'm just now getting over being sick.
I'm, seemingly, half lactose intollerant, I thought that was it, but I stayed sick...lol

Doesn't slow me down either! Forgive me, but do you have an insulin pump?

Yes, I do. :]
I've had diabetes for nearly ten years, and I've had my insulin pump for nearly two.

Pretty great, the pump really helps! My first A1C`s were six-something but I`ve been taking advantage of the pump and eating a lot LOL

diabetes sure slows me down some days... i know it may be stupid or a redundant question but how do you keep going (I'd ask this of any diabetic I met that seems to be on top of it)

Yeah, it can get hard, but you just have to accept that it's what has been dealt to you, and there's really nothing you can do about it.
So, I just do my best to try and calculate everything correctly, etc. It all just kind of gets better after you get past the initial annoyance of it interfering with things sometimes.
So, really, just try to stay optimistic about things, and it'll all get easier with time, honeybun.

It has been 6 years to the day since I was diagnosed with Type 2 insulin dependent diabetes and I don't let it run my life...^_^ I have lost over 50 pounds since then and I still need to lose more... but when I see awareness like this stamp, it makes me happy and I will be using it in my journal...^_^

How long have you had diabetes? I first encountered it when I was pregnant with my only child and had gestational diabetes which has turned into Tyype 2.
Also, I still encounter people who think that all diabetics have to do is stay away from sweets...>.<
