Description

The main cemetery in Mainz is the largest burial site in Mainz, which was created under French administration in 1803. He was a role model for the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris, which was built a year later. Not only did numerous prominent Mainz residents find their final resting place here, there are also honor and war grave facilities on the site, such as the German Court of Honor. The main cemetery and many of its monuments are now listed as cultural monuments.
Β

In 2005, the main cemetery in Mainz was added to the list of the most important cemeteries in Europe, an award from the European Association of Significant Cemeteries. [2] When choosing the most beautiful cemeteries in Germany in 2012, the Mainz main cemetery came third after the Ohlsdorf cemetery in Hamburg and the forest cemetery in Munich. [3]
