when taking landscapes its usualy not a good idea to bang the horizon right in the middle, it you want the mountains and hills to be the focus then put the horizon along the top third line, and use the bottom third line if you want the sky to be the focus.
also if you're doing landscapes you want everything in focus, the smaller your apperture, the deeper the depth of field, so it's good to have the aperture as narrow as possible (highest possible f-stop, confusing I know) so pop your mode dial round to Av I think it is for Cannon and turn your F-stop up till your shutter speed says 60, which is the speed that the average human can hold a camera steady for while standing.
it's also a good idea to include some foreground, it gives more perspective of the size and your position, so use a focal length wider than 55, and most of all enjoy yourself
I'm just regurgitating things that other people have told me, that seem to work I also recognise that you probably know all about DOF and all that, but I'm just saying it in case. They are Beautiful mountains

Thanks! The foothills in the foreground always remind me of the Sound of Music but I'm like "Oh wait! Wrong continent!" lol.
