Description Hi all,

An article written by ~suntech , reviewed and layed out by the ~photo-class team, aiming at an introduction to the different available camera and film types...

Brief:

Most of us are either used to consumer-range digital cameras or to standard 35mm analogue cameras. However, many other types of supports and cameras exist and are used daily by profesionals.

Let’s have a peek at the most common ones.

Please leave us comments if you found this useful or if you have any suggestion.

I cannot view the bigger picture, nor can I download it. I think it needs to be re-uploaded. I just keep getting an error that says "file not found". :\

I also think this page should be updated a little. the prices are way off, and we are up to 39mp with the H3D 39 that came out. it goes for around $35,000, not bad with the current exchange rates. (not that i'm going to get one, or can afford one

i agree with , vintage cameras kick a**. we shouldn't stop using them, just like the vintage audio equipment, now priceless, vintage cameras will gain appeal again. i have a 70's pentax k2, that i picked up from my gramps and a 70's model of the k1000 not the re-release from the nineties, that i learned on, and i found a mamiya 645 in an old dusty box of junk. i haven't gotten the mam to work yet, the shutter sticks. it has double exposure feature too, i never heard of that until i saw this camera.

Quite a useful read.
I myself have an affinity for vintage cameras, and am starting to learn to handle a few of the ones I have acquired.

While digital is certainly the way to go in the modern world, especially if photography is your professional career plan, I would recommend to any hobbyist/experimenter, hardcore or not, to try and get their hands on the old-timey stuff and see what they can crank out.

a image size of 500Mb !!! wtf! my 400D makes images around 10-20 mb in RAW... and thats 10mpx and for "proffesional use" it's wise to have a camera that take images that have a size of at least 32 mb.. (full format CCD) like the markI etc .. so 500mbs would enable you to print out an image at the size of a jumbojet hehe .. nice!

Nice tut!

Cheers from *mangatobbey

Film dimensions are 36x24mm, not 35x22mm.

...I clicked "download to desktop," but it displayed a "file not found" error. Could something have broken the link? Perhaps you should check it... or maybe this computer is just misbehaving, as it is sometimes wont to do... You have excellent, useful tutorials. I plan to put the photoclass icon in my journal to recommend it to other people. (Regretably, I'm not yet good enough to contribute anything... but perhaps someday I can help.)

This was very useful, though I wonder if you have any other information about getting the cross processing effect from polaroids?

It' ectually not the megapixels that count, because when you have 6 MP but your CCD is small, your better of with another camera.
Likewise, the most detail, last time I checked was a camera with 1,5 MP but a huge CCD

A large format digital camera

Thanks a lot, I found this helpful and a lot of this had more information than I learnt in 2 years of photography and a few more of Studio Arts in high school! The Polaroid stuff sounds very intruiging!

Great read and a solid overview.

+ 12megapixels for ~$3000? I only know of the 1ds and 14n and those are both at least $6000. (The Fuji one doesn't count!)
+ Also, in the Large format section...any specific dimensions on size?

Hi there, thank you for the comment.

About the camera prices - maybe *suntech was talking about the S2Pro. It does have a "fake" pixel count... The full-frame, 10+Mp cameras are far more expensive.

About the dimensions of the large format medium... It depends greatly, because many are custom build to the specification of the photographer. There may be a standard size as well, but I am not aware.

More info never harmed anybody. Especially that I didn't know that those "accordeon" cameras are still in use (tonight I sleep less stupid )

Frankly, what I'm really looking forward to is the Sharpness and Lighting tutorials.

Thank you so much, guys. Keep it up, we love you.

Good one! Not too much of a help for me as I have not the money to buy me a medium or large format cam. But it's informative for those who didn't know already.

Hope to see more tutorials like those already posted here!

like what parts exactly ? as far as I'm concerned all that's changed is the mpixel range for digi cams but I could be wrong ... enlighten me I haven't been doing much on DA lately at all so I'm a bit out of the loop.

Anyways, looking forward to a clarification, and thanks for takin' a look at this stuff

I think It would be nice to explore digital:
-pointandshoot
-DSLR
a little further.
And maybe even the gigapixle cameras.
