Mambar's Phoenixdex Entry

Mambar are extremely timid Pokémon and will freeze up at the first sign of trouble. They reflexively straighten out in an instant when frightened, and their special, metal-like scales make their bodies rigid and very hard to damage. As soon as the scary thing is gone Mambar will relax and slither away at high speed. As such, Mambar are notoriously difficult to train—they rarely use their potent venomous bite even when provoked, preferring to freeze in fear instead. Their peculiar defensive behavior is well-known, however, and has become a euphemism in Zencalian popular culture.

Mambar are actually fairly popular among Accolantian troublemakers—young ne'er-do-wells see it as both a cool poisonous Pokémon and, when that fails to impress because Mambar are about as threatening as a soggy tissue, a handy blunt implement useful for causing property damage and threatening other kids.

...yes, I am aware that Mambar's defensive behavior can be seen as very similar to... something. No, this was not an intentional design decision. Mambar and its evolution are actually very old concepts, created well before my mind or the mind of anyone I knew was so prone to diving into the gutter at the first hint of such a similarity. But now I see it, and it's there, and I'm not changing a perfectly good concept so I guess the only alternative is to embrace it (which does at least make for some amusing in-world local color for Accolanto and the ZC). To that end:

"That a Mambar in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

"Damn, that girl was fine! She sure scared my Mambar!"

There, I said it for you. Now you don't have to.

I thought of the expression "scared stiff" when I saw this pokemon before anything dirty came into my mind.

Huh... you know, that never actually occurred to me, even in the early stages of the design. Heh.

At the beginning, I thought this was an amazing concept and everything until I reached the end. "Damn, that girl was fine! She sure scared my Mambar!" Them dirty minds... Still, nice design

Well, I appreciate that /someone/ else was able to enjoy it at first without that springing to mind immediately, heh. Glad you liked it!

It's a shame that sometimes we have to limit our fakemon designs because of what people think of its concept, how it's wrong, etc. Grow up, people!
