Description This started out as something completely different, I quickly realised my canvas was too small for my other idea so went with plan B! A night sky aurora borealis attempt! In a bold and daring move I decided to try adding some pastels to the paint to make the aurora more eye catching. Must admit I'm not sure about this work, my gut feeling I usually have when posting artwork has gone missing! any feedback would be helpful.

Acrylics and pastels on canvas, oh and gesso too.

I think it was a good idea to add the pastels, since the end result looks really good!
But something about the aurora irks me... I think it sticks out a little too much compared to the night sky? I think it'd look better if the aurora kinda (not completely) blended in with the sky, so it has a sense of being "in-place." But if you were intending to have the aurora stand out, that's fine too!

Other than that, everything else was executed really well! Keep up the good work :'D

Well firstly thank you for your input, yes I know what you mean I painted the aurora at first but it lacked impact, so gave it a bolder brighter look with pastel. I guess its a more stylised look now, but perhaps I was rather foolish to try painting an aurora in the first place.

No probs! And I think it can still blend in with the environment with the pastel, but it wasn't foolish to attempt an aurora. It still looks like an aurora, that's one good thing :')

Well isn't that a lovely twist of wind in the sky. Only on fictional mediums like painting can patterns like this can be put to life.

Pastels at the end were a good move. I really like the subtler flow of the dark sky behind the aurora too. Lovely piece.
