those eyes are beautifully made, although to make all that portrait more eye-catching i`d consider adding more contrast. in my opinion even making a sharp dark background would nicely expose that face.

Great start! Before you get to far though, take another look at some of the features. Something about the nose/mouth is off, and I'm having trouble say what exactly... I think the nose and mouth are slightly tilted more than they should be... And his left eye is a bit too big. This is a terrible critique, I know, but try to take another look. Maybe flip both pictures upside down and see if there's a difference. Usually it'll stick out more once viewed from a new angle.
seriously, great start though. Just don't be afraid of the eraser. I probably erase more of my drawings than I keep most of the time.
