Description A picture done in another garden in Paris named "jardin des plantes" (something like a botanic garden). It is a great place to take picture from common birds.

This old man was trying to mislead the house sparrow : only the fastest was able to eat something

Nice capture! I have the same gear as used here - the 300 is a good "walk-around-lens" to accentuate the subject against the blurred background/foreground.

Hi
Thanks a lot for your comment.
Perhaps you believed that I used a 300 f4 IS lens but no... it was a 300 2.8 IS that I used here (not really a good "walk-around-lens" )
But I agree with you, I used a 300 f4 IS years ago and I miss it for it's light and small size quality. But the 300 2.8 replace it very well

JohnBerryPhotos In reply to phalalcrocorax [2012-01-06 06:15:54 +0000 UTC]

No, I felt it was the 2.8 But I also have the 300 f4, doesn't have the short DOF as the 2.8, and not as sharp, especially wide open - haven't taken 300 f4 out of the case in years, keep it in the car trunk for emergencies!

I have the 300 2.8 and 400 2.8 - now shoot mainly location fashion with 300, sports with the 400, but do not use as much now as I am not working as a staff shooter anymore. That was my daily kit on newspapers since early 1980's - 24 2.8, 85 1.8, 135 2.0 and 300 2.8.

A few major stories I had to borrow a 600 f4 from another staffer - hooked that up with a 2x and 1.4x doublers for an assignment covering 'Waco" - I had the "shortest" lens there. AP was using 800's with 2 doublers, they even had the old Nikkor 2000mm with 2 doublers - that was quite the setup compared to my "short" 600mm. lol
