The writers for the anime don't seem to do much research, considering that they've once claimed Arbok evolves into Seviper, had Bulbasaur learn Dig, and using Safeguard as a protection against attacks instead of status effects
I'm pretty sure Locke knows, since it's stated that the fungus controls Parasect in the Heartgold Pokedex entry, but it's either that or have Nyra killed in battle because she's underpowered
