After the hinge, you could add a swivel to give it omnidirectional targeting capability.Β

true I could. It would be another option. In present setting movement in 3th direction is provide by plate in the main skeleton above the picture.

Ah.Β
In my mind eye I had the vision that this was a weapon mount used on terrestrial low altitude combat crafts. Such craft would often have to drop in from orbit, thus the weapon mounts would be required to neatly tuck away into the crafts body to maintain streamlining for atmospheric entry.

I thought of a cylinder type that pops up and drops the gun and unloads on it's target.

It reminds me of the Dues Ex defense turret, yet this looks so bad ass... rendering is over an hour!? Well hot dawum, it paid off though, as this looks like it could legitemently be real, and that sure, is cooler than anything else I have seen in a long while...

A bit oddly jointed, but looks like it's on purpose: Am I right in guessing that the ability to *fold up, away, and out of notice* is at a premium? Sometimes easily hidden is well worth the price of awkwardness.
Otherwise very credible. The pivot closest to the weapon looks a bit like one on a (failed) robotic testing unit that I once did some consultant data crunching on (that's not a criticism: the pivot was the *only* part that actually worked but just to be sure they wasted another ten years and a quarter million dollars).
