Interesting that this was used for the cover of "Clarkesworld" magazine - a publication dedicated to plausible science and such... But still cool. And an Angel - if 'real' would be simply a higher degree of science unexplained

This angel in particular, Samyaza, is recorded in the Book of Enoch as the leader of 200 angels who chose to rebel against God by leaving the heavens and descending to earth to take human wives, whom they found beautiful. God imprisoned them for doing so, because angels were not meant to have wives like humans, and their offspring the Giants caused great evil upon the earth.

Samyaza or Semjaza was the leader of the fallen angels, a group known as the Watchers, who rebelled against God in Genesis 6 of the Bible and chapters 7 and 8 of the 1 Book of Enoch. In fact all angels featured here are part of the watchers.
They are utterly evil.

I think it was more pride and mis-guided love - that he could redeem man sooner by teaching man knowledge and putting his essence into mankind - creating a boost to man's advancement and therefore allowing man to ascend in perhaps hundreds of years, not many thousands of years. He was wrong, for even after thousands of years in the wilderness sin had not yet been purged from mankind.
Interesting that in RL we had man living like an animal for easily 100,000 - 1 million years - there would be 20,000 year differences between slight improvements in spear heads. Then, virtually overnight in that time scale sudden civilization, agriculture, technology. And there clearly were lost civilizations, just their remnants were along what used to be costal waters but after the ice age ended and water levels rose 300 meters... Problem is that happened at the 10,500 BC mark, not 4000 BC...that latter part was a monk counting the "Begats".
Now, watchers like Azazeal - who gave men blades and armor and women makeup - that is what you could call pure evil. Likely wishing to give man the means to destroy himself so the project would be over. He was bound more severely than the others but now messes with people using Ouiji boards and stuff.
