Okay, now the lengthy composition part describing the particulars of this one, namely the face and claws. For the claws I went for a combination of vintage toy (in the details and color) and mini-comic (for the glove-like proportions). Then it was on to the face. I had to tackle it, it had to be done! I looked at Filmation, Alcala, Classics and Vintage for the look. It may be subtle but I tried to incorporate elements of all in there (for example using a three-circled shape for the nose like Alcala's illustrations; or blackening the disconnect between jaw and skull like the Filmation design). But for the most part, I love the vintage toy head - see, in one sense, Skeletor just has a skull for a head. But on the vintage toy there's something, for me, about the softness of the detail, the halloween cartoony starkness of the paint - it makes it more than just a skull, it gives him a face. Take the teeth for example - that toy must have like... four in total. Maybe. But that look, that combination of sculpture and paint makes it more than a row of a skeleton's jaws; it gives him a unique mouth. Or so the impression left by the toy on my conscious since I was little at least. So that's the drive behind the treatment on the face here
