Description

Hi there, Noir here! Today's Pokemon is based on the weird and wonderful world of the slime mold: a unicellular animal large enough to be seen with the naked eye. You may have seen Gloospy in the Pokeathon as the coyote!

As always, I hope you enjoyed my content. I'll be taking a short hiatus to focus on moving and such, hope to see you again soon!

DESCRIPTIONS
-------------------
Name | Species | Type | Abilities | Height | Weight | Description

Gloospy | Transfigure Pokemon | Poison | Battle Armor, Gooey, Intimidate (Hidden) | 2'04", 0.71 m | 99.0 lbs, 44.9 kg | When it is not hunting, this Pokemon reverts to a slime form and takes refuge in the skulls of its devoured prey. In the dead of night, it transforms and pretends to be a different Pokemon to hunt the babies.

Goomagool | Disfigure Pokemon | Poison/Ground | Battle Armor, Gooey, Intimidate (Hidden) | 6'02", 1.88 m | 787.9 lbs, 357.3  kg | Native stories tell of a creature that takes the form of a human to lure children away from trails; the only thing off being the presence of a tail. Many now believe this Pokemon is the source of those stories.

DESIGN & CONCEPT
--------------------------

These Pokemon are based on slime mold, in particular Physarum polycephalum and Fuligo septica. It is also based on many extinct animals such as the largest monitor lizard to ever exist Megalania, the giant ground sloth Megatherium, and the giant wombat Diprotodon. Mythological inspirations includes the coyote, the skin-walker, and the wendigo.

Additionally, the abstract theme for these Pokemon is paleontology, the study of fossils. Though we'll never know about the potential billions of lost species which fossils are trapped under the sea, or worse, melted into the earth's core, the fossils we do have provides a rich tapestry of the interwoven story of the life on this planet.

GLOOSPY: Some of the best fossils in the region were found encased in a strange ambery substance, a mystery that puzzled the regional paleontological communities, due to the lack of sap-producing trees. Later, unrelated research of Pokemon bones that seemed to disappear or move throughout the night uncovered the existence of Gloospy, a primitive Ditto-like Pokemon that requires bones to transform. When subjected to stress, these strange Pokemon secrete a large amount of slime and sporulates, trapping or suffocating whatever is attacking it. And thus, the mystery was solved. These Pokemon are primarily based on slime mold, particularly Physarum polycephalum, which lends its bright yellow color, aversion to light, and spore-forming abilities under stress or lack of nutrients. It is also based on the Native American myth of the skin-walker, a shaman with the ability to transform into whatever animal skin they don. In this Pokemon's case, it uses the bones instead. The skull's design is a nod to Cubone's, which many believe comes from its Kangaskhan mother (a Pokemon that also lives in the Australia region); I'll let you make your own conclusions from that. The coloration for the Pokemon's main body - yellow - is based on its animal inspiration. The multi-colored dots are the nuclei of this Pokemon, each responsible for a different function, showing the alienness of this Pokemon. Finally, the theme for this Pokemon is paleontology, a study of fossils deposited throughout the earth's crust, an exciting line of study with new discoveries made every year if not every day!

GOOMAGOOL: Growing too large to coordinate complex transformations for prolonged periods, a Goomagool has a very different approach to hunting. It hunts by emulating the body shape and movements of a 'gentle giant,' believed to be a long-extinct Pokemon. As it lumbers around pretending to be a clumsy herbivore, it sends out tendrils around the trees to detect and engulf any unsuspecting bugs, birds, and small mammal Pokemon. Other times, it transforms into a member of a group of Pokemon, infiltrate it, then use its retractable bone claws and tail-stinger to quickly take all of them down. The design for this Pokemon is modeled after several extinct animals, most importantly Megalania and Megatherium. This marriage of a harmless herbivore and hostile predator encapsulates the concept of this Pokemon: an imposter that hunts with great ferocity. The bones worn by this Pokemon is no longer used as a makeshift mobile home, instead serving as suits of armor. Additionally, it also uses bones offensively, stabbing with sharpened ribs and tailbones: devouring their prey from the inside out through deep wounds. The upside-down head/skull serves a dual purpose of a breastplate and adding to its supernatural appearance. The colors for this Pokemon are unchanged, showing that this Pokemon is fundamentally still a Gloospy, but with the privilege of abundant prey. Thematically, this Pokemon represents the field of paleobiology, a branch of study which seeks to understand what extinct animals were like in life. From trackways to nests to coprolites, there exists all kinds of fossils that paints a picture of how these long-gone creatures were actual living beings: with yearly migrations, maternal instincts and varied appetites.

----------
NAMES
----------

Gloospy is named from 'glue,' reflecting the sticky slime coating its body; 'gloop,' a thick, viscous fluid; and 'spooky,' referring to their uncanny ability to 'body snatch' another Pokemon.

Goomagool is a portmanteau of the words 'goo,' i.e. slime; 'Gogmagog,' the name of a legendary giant in Welsh and English folklore; which in turn is named from 'Gog and Magog,' a term denoting a barbaric outsiders (that emerge during the apocalypse) of Hebrew origin; and 'ghoul,' to denote its spooky, gruesome behavior.

---------------------------
EVOLUTION METHOD
---------------------------

Gloospy is the unevolved form of this evolution line.

Goomagool evolves from Gloospy when leveled up while knowing Ancient Power.
