Description
   "Are you okay?" asked the voice from above.
"Yeah, I'm fine," replied the girl, alone and sobbing in the dark corner.
   "Are you.... Are you entirely sure of that...?"
"Yes! Now go away!" she would have screamed it, but instead she choked on her tears.
  But I'm not okay, the girl thought, and comforting hands on my shoulders mean nothing to me. That's why I continually shrug them off. Not because I am haughty, or proud, but simply because to me they are a waste of time.
   Later that evening the girl's mother entered the room, "Hello sweetheart, how are you?"
   "Alive," Came the brusque reply.
"Darling," her mother sat on the bed beside her, and took the girl's hands, "I'm worried that you're not dealing with all this."
   "I'm dealing with it fine! I'm okay! To be honest, I don't give a damn! Who cares? It's gone! It's never coming back and it's never going to happen again, I'm dealing with it, okay?" The explosion was hot and angry.
   Scorched by her daughter's words, the mother backed away, "Yes, dear, that's okay. I believe you. I'm sure you're fine. I was just checking."
And the girl was left on her own again, to swim amongst venomous thoughts, so you suddenly care now, do you? Well, you didn't care when it was my friend, you didn't care when it was the person I loved. Now just because it's your mother, your loved one, you expect me to keel over with grief and fall into your arms? You left me to cry alone for two weeks and now just because you're feeling the pain too you want me to come to you? To come to you after you laughed at me? 'He doesn't matter,' you said to me. Well, in that case you don't matter to me either. Just leave me alone. The furious thinking stopped, and salty tears began to cascade down her face. Her anger had melted the ice in her eyes.
    I feel so hollow inside....
That night, when the girl drifted into sleep, all she could see before her were two coffins. Within one lay a young body, but the other was empty and waiting. Terror paralyzed her heart.
   Alone, in the pressing darkness of her bedroom, she awoke screaming.
