raw scan of two sketches i put side by side. nanami kiryuu and anthy himemiya are my favorite characters of the revolutionary girl utena series, aside from juri arisugawa.i only got into the series recently (a few months ago) and i'm absolutely in love with it. i have the utena movie (ever since i was in high school) and even though it confused the hell out of me i loved it as well.
i thought after watching the series it'd make me less confused, but nope! haha. still, beautiful animation for the most part and dark themes under its pretty exterior.

I am SO glad I watched the series first. The movie is a supercondensed version that does very... strange... things. I didn't think anything COULD be stranger than the series.

Ha. I just finished watching the last episode like a half an hour ago. I will say it was pretty good, though some parts confused the hell out of me. Now to watch the movie...if I can find it. Oh don't hate me, but I couldn't stand Nanami. That obnoxious spoiled brat annoyed the hell out of me. She's like the 2nd most hate anime character in my book right next to Asuka from Evangelion.

haha she's definitely a horrible little girl, and almost an evil child for what she did to her brother's kitten. n_n;; but i liked her in the end. i mean, at first she just doesn't want any girl dating her brother, then she has a real breakdown when she thinks they're no longer related and she has to become one of the many girls that swoon over her brother and can never have him. that was one of the heavier episodes for me
i think after that episode is when i started to like her. i usually don't like bitchy girls, and nanami certainly takes the cake, but i like how she sorta ends up growing by the end of the anime.

I was the complete opposite. I was like, "Yeah bitch. Now you get what you deserve." Yeah, I know I'm mean. Actually, the only three girls I liked in the anime were Anthy, Utena, and Utena's friend which I forgot her name.

Yeah, that's her name. Though I like them, they're not my favorites. My favorites are Miki, I think that's how you spell his name, and Touga. I actually feel bad for Miki having a sister like Kozue.

the ending to the series was stunning. haven't watched it since high school but utena had a major influence in my art. huge.

wahh! I have the movie too (I got it for free at one of the Anime Expos a long time ago... because I was wearing pink hair @_@)~ anyway........... I have yet to read the manga and see the series /FAIL
But damn do I love Anthy. She's too cute, and if only I had dark skin!!!

the creator used to ink sailor moon, so it'll be dripping with that cheese factor a lot haha. XD oh and lots of gay stuff near the end.
