Intense eyes, and the subtle, light skin tones are handled beautifully--no easy task with charcoal. How did you blend it?

well, basically with smudging sticks, i couldn't do it without 'em, but i also use the fingers, but for darker areas, like hair, .. I use the sticks for line details just as eyes, mouth, eyebrows, hands, and for the face, like shadows, cotton buds..

at the beggining it's quite difficult, before you notice, you'll master it, i started with simple portraits, taken form magazines, etc, and i didn't use to do details, the secret is to do a lot of drawings, one after another, but you need to be patient. In a year since the first portrait i was able to do drawings as 'Beth', and i noticed i taked more and more time with each one, sometimes even 6 hours, and i continue to do them even more slowly.... be patient, it isn't impossible...

I use pretty much the same (as well as Q-tip cotton swabs), but I have a hard time getting those fine, light tones. I can do it, but not with consistency. Then again, I only recently started drawing with charcoal.

Definitivamente es un hermoso trabajo. Muy real...Me gustan sus ojos, claros y expresivos. En cuanto al cuello, creo que sightless-jac tiene razón, se ve un poco corto aunque tal vez es por el vestido, el cabello y/o la posición en la que ella se encuentra...busqué la foto para tener una mejor idea para criticar tu trabajo pero no la pude encontrar... Me hubiera gustado tener más bases.
Por cierto, me gustó como te quedó el collar. Mmm...tal vez lo único que no me gustó mucho como te quedó fue el cabello (que según yo es lo que está al lado del collar), es muy oscuro. Pero repito, tendría que ver la foto. Además, no me hagas mucho caso, no soy una experta en arte.
Por cierto, ¿tu cumpleaños no es hasta mayo?

I continue to be stunned by your work. It's strange how we use the same medium and yet our styles are so strikingly different. Perhaps that's what's the most enchanting about it for me. The placement here is great. I love the white space (I'm a big fan of off-center work). I also love the fact that you didn't quite finish the dress. That unfinished look gives the image a lot of charm.
