I have only had to enter the words (pencil) after a title once before, that was for my drawing 'Running Water'When I finished this drawing I felt the same way that I did when I finished that one, apart from completely exhausted, I actually liked what I saw in front of me and wanted to make sure people knew that it was drawn with a pencil rather than digital.
This was my most difficult, intense and tiring drawing. Taking over 60 hours to complete, I used only one pencil - my 0.5mm mechanical 4B pencil, why? I guess I was really lazy and didn't want to change pencils every 2 minutes - if I had It would have taken twice as long! it was also good practise in applying varying amounts of pressure to get different effects, rather than using various grades of pencil. My other friend's on creating this were my blending stump, "Tombo Mono Zero' eraser and little brush to keep the rubbings off the paper
Drawn on locally sourced smooth paper, dimensions - 70cm X 40cm.

This image is haunting me lol I have recently started colouring with water colour pencils. Would you mind if I printed a copy off just for my own personal pleasure and had a go at colouring it? Completely understand if you would prefer I didn't but thought I'd run it past you.Β
I can't draw my way out of a paper bag, but hugely admire those of you that have such incredible talent!

Thanks so much Paul. I am hoping to change careers and become a Colourist at some point in the not too distant future. At this stage honing my skills with colouring techniques with pencils, later with digital. Typical me, I am tending to choose more challenging stuff now, and your Water Dragon is nothing if not that! He just riveted my attention the first time I saw him lol.
I would be honoured to show you my efforts, and see what you think. (It may take a few days as I work full time and only get to colour evenings and weekends at the moment.) I'll definitely let you see it

Thanks very much for the good wishes Paul. I'm certainly going to give it a go. I have uploaded a few pics to my profile as examples of the colouring I've done so far. Aiming to constantly improve!
I've tried printing out the pic and unfortunately it comes out with that very dark grey background, doesn't seem to be an easy way to get rid of that. You wouldn't have a pic where the whole background is just white would you? Sorry to be a pain!
Otherwise will see what I can do, but all the grey would mute the colours a lot.Β

I thought you worked on the whole piece adding "layers" of details but I see from the WIP you started from one point and progressively moved toward the end.

Yeah I have drawn a few pieces by layering detail over initial sketches, or darkening and adding more contrast, however I found that this was very time consuming and a bit boring, so now I normally draw an outline of what I want with the key features using a hard pencil (4H or HB) and then complete the drawing in one go from right to left
