may I ask the dimensions of this painting?

You asked me this question some time ago - the painting has long since been sold but I remember it to be quite small i.e. roughly a4 size, The model was quite "in her cups" and was swaying about as I painted her. It took about twenty minutes to paint but those are generally the best ones - the paintings that just appear.
do'nt you agree?

Yes, I am still among those who fallow the senses of they the way of samurai.

alla prima capture two seconds for eternity, because we are free just watch muses smiling at us and smile them back being completely selfish.

I will keep smiling for and may muses guide your way!

Thankyou very much. I am trying in my mind to imagine where Latvia is. It seems a long way away..
You say that the colours that you use are for an airbrush i dont see any airbrush, though. Just amazing brushwork. Samurai? You know of Soji Hamada?

You are welcome!

Latvia is located on the east coast of Baltic see near Russia.

Soji Hamada? Would you mind to introduce me to?

Thank you again.

That sounds so amazing. Is there a good art scene there? I mean are there decent galleries to show your work?
As far as Hamada is concerned, he was a potter who lived in Japan and who seemed to epitomise a sense
of pure art in his work. Also his work was ego-less - he refused to sign his work. Like the unknown craftsman. The feel of your art work is very mature - have you been doing it for long?

miracleXdrug In reply to PatrickRorke [2010-01-23 23:13:39 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Yes, there are good galleries and also some professional curators of contemporary art, therefore you can find all you need for the basics and promotion for the international art stage.

It's interesting to learn about Hamada. Much appreciated that you have shared this connection. I will definitely look up for more about him.

About being mature, that's very precious compliment and before answering your question, I have to express how much I'm flattered. At the moment I'm completing my studies of bachelor degree, but I have studied in art collage and oil colors have been mediator of my mind work for more then seven years, however, I have started to progress recently and I haven't planned stopping. Summing up I may relay on the samurai again - I have had a training, but only now I have began to fight.

Aah, oil paint.. It is like cello music in the rain.
I love the fact that it is really only pigment held in oil
and that one works with the pigment and also with the amount of oil that one
allows.. If you have started with oil, then I do not think that you will
ever stop. I googled Latvia and it looks very beautiful - very old.
I have been looking at some of your oils - I am going to let them settle
in my mind before commenting. I hope that you dont mind if I do.

I really like this piece, you have a lovely touch and colour pallette. The blue in the bottom corner is very interesting. Reminds me of some Dega works.
Is it for sale out of interest?

You know the old saying, that the essence of art is nothing extra.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jeerk In reply to PatrickRorke [2004-02-18 12:47:32 +0000 UTC]

That's a great words I am always at the opinion that essence of art reside deeper inside and is irrespective than how difficult and complicatet is a technique someone use... Like for me simplicity of some artwork are much more expressive and beauty that others masterpieces.

PatrickRorke In reply to jeerk [2004-02-19 04:53:13 +0000 UTC]

You are right, it comes from within but somehow also from a collective sense. It seems
to me that if one comes across really good work, there is a kind of recognition. As though one knows the work.

Not really, perhaps high on the smell of turpentine. Is there any smell better?

hot homemade cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning?
baby hair

Sorry, I have to disagree - there is no smell like that of opening the studio door and getting that sweet smell of turpentine. It takes you right back to your first painting.
