Facebook: [link]Say hello to my new style! Well at least I think so, it's pretty much the same as the style I've had for years, only I've added a touch of the new technique in the shading
I'm happy with how this works so I'll keep using it but always keep my traditional PB lines and pencil work.I know it's a bit of a change and some of you may not like the new direction but I really think once I have used the new addition for a while my work will have more value. I'm just glad I've finally figured things out, now I'm back in the game, no more practice pics

Well, character-wise this is definately considerately more detailed than some of your previous work- and its better off for it.
Don't get me wrong, your older stuff like that District9 image is awesome, and very unique sylistically. Its just pretty cool to see what you can do with that specific aesthetic style if you add some more painterly elments to the illustration.
The warm-to-cool colour composition is really great, because it diects the viewer's eye to everywhere it should be directed in the illustraion. Great foreshortening in the character's pose too- its not too subtle, and not overdone. Perfectly balanced.
I love the fact that though there is a quite a bit more painting in the illustration, you sill didn't compromise you line art- this is of course one of your strengths as an illustrator, so it should be the way it is right now.
A pretty cool trick you did was slightlly warping that Berretta of his, it really gives a great, but subtle, sense of motion is the character's pose.
I like the fact that only the bare essentials of detail are used to convey the background. There's a roof, walls and a roughly drawn explosion,and that's really all the illustration needs, especially considering that the entire composition, and perspecive theref, leads the eye to the character's facial expression.
All in all, a really fun image. Its great to see what your new work looks like, as I've said, pushing you style towards realism makes it look reaaaal cool.
The Only thing I'd like to have seen a bit more of, is the rim light that the explosion created on the character. Currently, its just showing on his right side, and it MIGHT have looked a bit bettter if the rim light shone on both sides of the character. But this is somethin barely noticable in the overall picture, so I don't think its that big a problem.

Excellent work. Love the lens effect.
The pose is classic and the shot is to classy too.
You didn't pass much time of the boum effect, even if it's out focus, you need to get it right.
Look like he miss an arm. Maybe the pose, but he look strange without two arms.
You're lighting is good too (you use the burning as backlight).
My advice: Try to focus on detail. I know comics is not every an art of detail but if I look to youre style.. you pass more time on head then cloth. (in this image).

Mr. Brown, I hate you. I hate you so very very much. Your illustrations and colouring are outstanding. I know this was done in photoshop but I still can't put my finger on how exactly you colour things. This critique applies to all of your drawings. You've not only got scale and anatomy down to a T but to me your drawings look likes photos but with just the right amount of added cartoonish style. As a fellow artist I am very envious of your work. I've had no formal education in art and I hope you could share some techniques with me some time.
Well this is the first dA critique I've ever written. Gushing jealousy is usually how it's done, right?

Your new style approaches more the "painty-artsy" style that most artists use nowadays while your old one was "awesome digital-like".I myself am a fan of your "old" style,because it had something of you in it,something original.Not saying the new style isn't original,but in my opinion it lacks that little touch to separate it from "great" to "WOW!!!"

Your stylized line work shows through in this well, and not much of the charm is lost with the painted style. Specific things that jump out to me as problems are the fingers, the shading on the arm, and the closest naso-labial line. When you use a more realistic painted style, accuracy becomes a much larger problem than with flat shading and you are more open to scrutiny. I am looking forward to seeing your skill with this style evolve and refine. I can see some definite potential in Niko's face. You should definitely continue using this style and refining it. You're proving that you don't only do one type of art, and that is what the world of artists needs. And deviantArt, if you ask me.

So...critique....ok, never done one...anyway; I have to say I've been a follower of you'rs for a while. I love you're themes characters and so on, plus I actually love you're change of style (many people seem to disagree)
This is actually cool because you've been doing Niko for a while and it's cool to se him come through the new style.
Great piece, only tiny thing is the change in colour on the guy's jumper...I know it's stupid but it just seems to kinda' cut him, maybe if you had placed it upper on his chest...don't know..anyway IT'S A GREAT JOB!!!!

Been following you on DevianArt for some time, your stuff is ace. But that right cheek crease is just jumping out at me like a cobra, maybe thin it out or knock it down with a skin tone.
The first art you posted that I faved was The Trasnporter, and it just hit me that this pose is real close to that one.
I like how you also are transitioning to a more painterly style, it's going to work well with your subject matter from the movies and GTA stuff. This was my first critique, congrats !!!

This is a very interesting picture, because of its environment.
The character Niko is a very deep, and if you played the ending this is what it reminds me of his choice between revenge and Morality.
It has great color and with the jacket and face stealing the viewers focus. The gun looks almost three dimensional, like when he is done with this poor prick he is coming after you in a fit of RAGE!
The background also is very well put together with the GTA classic explosion (BOOM) with great color and depth. It gives the feel of a dark tunnel with a deep fury of fire from a rogue grenade.
I enjoy your art and this one goes in my Favorites!

I've been following your work for a while, I'm a massive GTA fan, so your art has been the work of the Gods for me. In fact it inspired me with much of my own art. I'm liking your new style, this move in a new direction, though this piece is more similar to your "last" Niko artwork and your Amazing Spider-man work. Although you probably knew that. The pose of him in this picture is an often used one, and since I strive for honesty I give four stars, because it still looks awesome. As mentioned above, the technique is top notch, especially the ammount of time it seems you spent on it. As for Niko's appearance... well I have some little niggles. I'm not quite sure but it looks like his eyes are grey or blue in this picture? I think his nose is a little short and his upper lip too big, plus his facial expression is a bit generic action hero-y so that may affect his appearance. Not generic action hero-y in a bad way, by the way. To be honest he does have a bit of a Johnny Klebitz look in his facial structure, although Klebitz and Bellic do look similar since Rockstar used the same facial model for both. I do like the scene Niko is in here, I think it looks like the mission from Derrick McCreary with Packie, where they kidnap Derrick's former buddy In the Booth Tunnel as he is transported to Alderney Correctional Facility. The lighting reminds me of it. I only completed GTA IV last week, so its fresh in my mind. All in all, its a wonderful artwork, and I hope this critique (my first, by the way) gives something you were looking for.

It's crazy you've got so many styles and this drawing is still pretty good but I like the style you used for your GTA IV Tribute wallpaper the best. The real sharp edges, particularly around the eyes made it look so kool, stylized and has that unique Patrick Brown flavour to it

Magnificent composition! In replaying GTA-IV, TLaD and TBoGT, I'm forever vigilant in my observation of exciting angles, dramatic poses and once-only opportunities for a screen capture ... if only the game produced images of this intensity!
