I took this pic at the Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A., CA. I was inspired to post it after seeing Swanee3's Love Bug shot: [link]

This is a 1963 VW Beetle used in the original Herbie The Love Bug movie.

Other famous cars on display by Herbie included Rita Hayworth's 1953 Cadillac, Fred Astaire's 1927 Rolls Royce Phantom I, Elvis Presley's yellow Ford Pantera and Steve McQueen's Jaguar E-Type.

I know that museum! I love going there! I wish I could be there on one of the days where they have Herbie there. I think they have him in the vault area, but it's like $30 to get into that part of the museum, and they won't let people take pictures in that part of the museum.

Keep going back.  The pull the original Herbie and the Lindsay Lohan Herbie out of the vault fairly often.  One huge disadvantage of paying to go into the vault is that they don't allow photography down there.

This looks to be the 1997 remake Beetle, the original top was grey and the stripe went over the cloth top. The 1997 remake all had white tops, like the one in this photo. Also, the seats in the 1968 classic Herbie's seats were grayish, while the 1997 version they were white, which this museum Bug has.

Yeah, that is the actual Herbie used by the studio. The Petersen Auto Museum is fascinating because they have so many cars with unique histories like this one.
