A thing from my sketchbook from December that I forgot to scan before. Another visit to Simon’s zoo!
Ramses the criosphinx is OLD, and can’t always wear his claws down like he once used to. Thus, the zoo’s caretakers clip his claws regularly to keep his old paws happy and healthy. Ramses is also a total sweetheart, and the only one of the animals that can be handled in person by pretty much everyone.
Here’s Sven, the intern (a troll), taking care of Ramses’ old little pawsies. Ramses thanks him by grooming his arm with his rough, catlike tongue evolved to remove flesh from bones. Ramses is such a sweetheart!

We have a coati at work - they do a lot of mutual grooming but that means biting, so we taught her to groom herself when we pet her so she can feel "right" by doing grooming while being "groomed" without actually biting us with her sharp, really gross teeth...

Heh, nothing like being tenderized by an ol' predator.
My terrier likes to give others a bath rather than get a bath from me and I agree; it takes a while to get all that dog hair off my tongue.

My older cat likes to groom me in a similar way. I used to hate it at first, but as she did it less I found I started to miss it (also, she tends to lick just the right side, and now the right side of my face is smoother than the left).
