*Rhys' POV*

It was weird waking up.

Like it was all a dream.

I'd spent ,what felt like a minute, but was way over a century, buried in the ruins of the land that was once known as Equestria. I opened my eyes as quickly as I could, which wasn't very quick at all. It was then I noticed, both my eyes weren't there. I reached up my hoof to check the excruciating wound, only to be greeted by a blooded, necrotic stump, oozing with tar like slime. I tried to vomit, but my incredibly malnourished, and even more so dehydrated body, prevented it.

How in Equestria am I alive while everyone perished? My body froze. "That's it" I whispered "I'm not alive.. I'm.. 'Dead'". I examined the parts of my body that weren't trapped in the rubble to only reveal a mysterious bite wound on my wing. A zombie bite wound.
It was an hour or so before the blast. I was scouting an area up ahead to see it was safe for my friends and family to pass through. The area looked safe so far but my opinion of it soon changed as I felt something sink it's teeth into my flesh. The rest of that memory is hazy, I don't even know how I got out, but the one thing I remember was the heartbroken look Jace gave me when she found out. I was a dead pony walking and she knew all to well. That conversation seemed to last forever, she hadn't cried that much since the night after giving away Gale to Wordie. It was devastating. We made love in that building that very moment, for we knew that would be the last time...

And we were right.

A painful tear rolled down my cheek. I should have tried harder to protect her. My friends. My family. I let them down...
I lay there motionless for a while, with only the sound of my makeshift breathing to keep me company. Thinking of what could have been. Jace. Mom. Gale. I paused.

Gale wasn't in the explosion. That means... OH MY GOD.

Using all the energy I had left, I forced myself through the rubble, until I finally saw the daylight above. The feeling of the cool summer air against my half-necrotic skin felt like heaven. Like a kiss from Jace's ghost. Ruins of what once was the Ponyville library lay ahead. Now overgrown with vines and Ivy, the long thick grass came up to my undercarriage, caressing my genitals ever so slightly, It was like mother nature had consumed this place. Even though I was frowning on the outside, I was actually glad to see something peaceful. Something 'Alive'.

But now was not the time to adore the scenery. I had to find out if my daughter was still alive and I didn't care how long it'd take. I'd find her some how.

Using what was left of my old armor and what remained of my magnetic powers I forged myself a prosthetic hoof. It wasn't nothing fancy but it worked fine. Limping a little I scavenged around a little, only to find a black rag on the floor.
Picking it up, I slowly wrapped it around the tender wound on my 'Eye'. Could I even call it an eye anymore? it was more like a big, rotting crater in my face and boy did it bucking hurt. I felt like a Jigsaw puzzle missing pieces. I felt incomplete. But that feeling was nothing compared to the emptiness in my undead, unbeating heart, it was like I had my life ripped away from me and it ate at me for every second I thought about it.

This was gonna be a long day....
