I think people can turn the back in that way without breaking the spine
I'm not a master not even perfect, that means I still have to learn a lot, but alongside my career as artist I studied anatomy (medical) books a lot and I also have an athlethic past , so I experienced on myself what the human body can and can't do.
Besides that art and comics drawings are perception of our own imagination, if we should stick only to the real world most of the stories we love would not take place anywhere.

I love this stage of the artists (or, in the best case, this "this kind of artists"..), at some point later they become cocky (and / or expensive) and we don't see them anymore doing all kinds of covers like this. Later they work under exclusivity contracts, marvel lays its almighty hand and no more butts, and so..
This stage is awesome! And you are destined to go as far as you want, in the way you want!
